hi,
woah, i just found out while comparing my old 48khz wavs/mp3s and wondered why the percs sound different and accidentally i switched back again my samplerate to hear if 48khz gives me more upper frequencies!
so i was some years at 48khz -> 44.1khz 1 week ago -> 48khz back today.
the effects like distortion, bitcrush etc. are from the Kontakt FX library!
i just was meaning the pitch of both.
listen to my results :/
44.1

48

how can this be?

FYI it's perfectly normal for recordings made at 48k to play incorrectly at 44.1 (and vica versa)

Guys, right-click and open in new tab, it plays fine then.
Caine, I think we need details on what creates these sounds. There's bitcrushing on everything, how's that added, is it in Kontakt or an external FX, details please, it's hard to tell how all of this is created.
Yes, there's a difference, the 48k is brighter, not different pitch. More overtones - the bitcrushing effect seems to be affected by the sample rate.

Did a quick test with Kontakt's own bitcrusher effect, and yes that one's the culprit here. It sounds quite different between sample rates. So it's not the pitch of the actual sample that's changing, it's the Lo-Fi effect in Kontakt. I'd assume it's been there since v1.0 of Kontakt and never updated for use with different sample rates. Perhaps back in 2002, using different sample rates was less common? Just speculating.
The way it sounds in 44.1k is really cool, less so in 48k, so I'd assume it was built for 44.1k.

The range of Sample Rate knob in the old Lo-Fi effect is sample rate dependent indeed, so the same normalized parameter value would sound different between different sample rates. Its range is always from 50 Hz up to current host sample rate.
In Kontakt 7.5 a new lo-fi effect was added, Bite, which sounds consistent across all sample rates (and sounds way better too) - its range is 100 Hz ... 44.1 kHz.

thx a lot to you both!
ahhh ok, i think i used 48khz for one release, kinda bummer i didnt notice it.... well it sounds not bad otherwise i wouldnt have used it lol. but im gonna mark it down. i think im staying on 48khz 24bit cause so far i didnt read any disadvantages but more advantages, still not sure is it is true or not.
