Which is the space echo preset? Spaceexpander? (or whatever it's called)?
There are two in Audio Thing Springs: RE-201 (Dark) and RE-201 (Bright). They got two different units with two very different sounds. So you can pick whichever sounds best to you.
Ok, I misread. I thought that meant there was ana ctual delay effect within. Not the emulation of those machines' reverb component.

I tried the Arturia one, but it doesn't seem anywhere near as flexible as Springs. Sounds fine, but not much under the hood.

Audio Thing's Outer Space is their full-blown RE-201 emulation. And it's excellent. Springs is just the spring reverb component along with a lot of other spring reverbs.

Does anyone know how long the Audio Thins Springs vst is on sale for at Plug in Boutique? It says 31st on the product page, but I'm not sure that pertains to this particular offer

ghostwhistler wrote: Sat Aug 05, 2023 3:30 pm I like your stuff. How did you write that?
Thanks :) I don't really write anything anymore (aside from short looped sequences), I improvise with modular synths and a few software synths. Form kind of emerges from the patching and I just follow that and play along.

The machine has taken over!

Big +1 for the Audio Thing Outer Space. Excellent plugin.

I don’t remember who said this, some jazz guy, but he took offense to calling what he did as “improvisation.” I’m screwing this up, but I think he wanted to call it “spontaneous composition.” I like this term better too. It’s not just trying random stuff and hoping something works. It might not be as structured as sitting down and writing something over time, but it’s definitely more like it that’s not.

Yeah, it's not random, it's informed by experience. A ton of time put into it to learn what sorts of things work and what don't, and a hundred tons of listening.

(I still don't mind calling it improvisation though :) )

The IK Space Delay is without out a doubt the best space echo emulation. It’s got it’s quirks and you have to be very precise with the input drive and feedback lp filter if you want to be able to control the feedback but the tone is number one.

That’s what I think as well, though to be honest I have not tried the Cherry Audio one yet. It’s one of those things where I have the IK, UAD and Arturia versions already, and I’m pretty happy with them. I just don’t need another emulation.

I really, really, really don't like the IK version.

Seems it's a very polarizing plugin. I know a few people around here love it and there are a few here that really don't, myself included.

Just got an email that Modnetic is currently on sale for 29 Euros:

https://www.surrealmachines.com/product ... nes-vstau/

...I have it, don't use it much because I just reach for Outer Space first. But I do like it. I keep forgetting it about it more than anything.
