Hello friends,

I'm interested in starting to produce electronic music, but I'm still unsure about which DAW to choose. As a beginner, could anyone suggest which one would be a good option for me?

Yup pretty sure many will be positively certain which will be the better choice for OP and quite a few will be positively certain it's Reaper

You need to download and try both, I wish I would have done that before committing to Ableton. I am having problems with Ableton not allowing multiple midi routings. I thought about trying FL to see how it handles that, but time is so valuable that seems like a diversion for me.

There's a wide variety of different types of Electronic music. There are also a number of ways that people create music. Some people play instruments/controllers and record that playing as audio and/or midi. Some people only program notes in a piano roll and never touch an instrument. Some people only work with samples and arranging them into compositions. Some combine different methods.

Knowing nothing about you, whether you are a total beginner to music, or are a skilled musician in non electronic styles and looking to shift over, etc., makes it impossible to offer any sort of advice that means anything.

Get a groovebox instead, like maybe something from Elektron. A lot more fun, a lot less headaches.

if you plan to do DJing, live performances, or anything similar, and you can afford it, consider buying both Push3 and Ableton Live; otherwise, go with FL Studio

it was an official poll started by the developers, and as can be seen, FL Studio is not going to get too high priorities in these topics in the future.

Both are great. Ableton Live, in my opinion, has better stock plug-ins and a more straightforward workflow. FL Studio on the other hand, has multiple ways of doing things. The step sequencer is great, and the arrangement window is less restrictive that Ableton Live.

Ableton Live is very costly. FL Studio is very affordable and has lifetime free updates. Both the DAWs have a very active community and tons of tutorials available. You can't go wrong with either.

Ableton offers a 90-day 100% functional trial for Live. FL Studio offers a trial as well, without export/save features. Go ahead and download both, try them and make a decision accordingly.

Or if you have a lot of money, buy both. lol.

Another good hint for a newcomer:

Far more people are leaving FL Studio for something else after noticing how the programm really works than leaving other DAWs for switching to FL Studio...

Of course because of the "No resale" policy they are listed as official users but the amount of people using FLS on a daily base is quite low in comparison and the vast majority are "beat makers" means they rarely produce full songs but at the very end just "loops" of 1-2 minutes so they hit the problems of FLS quite rarely...

I am (was) a FLS user and if I had to decide nowadays starting freshly from the start I would go Ableton in this case for sure!

I've used both and I still think FLS is a little too much all in all, how the windowing etc. is done. Then again, I have used Ableton since v8 and havent touched FLS since that time so what do I know then

The thing I know I can get to lay my ideas with Ableton as fast as possible - this is the reason for me to use Live.

Ableton or FL Studio ?
