Reverb on any sound source synthetic or otherwise should be tailored for the task at hand. It is that simple. If a reverb in a synth is there and it is bordering serviceable, I will give it a quick go and then almost always pull out the proper reverbs.

Think of it: a reverb plugin with a synth inside the feedback network.

Cluttered sound aside, I often refer to use a separate reverb or delay so I can apply different FX for the verb or delay than I might to the actual synth sound.mountainmaster wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 11:57 am I usually disable built-in reverbs. A mix can become cluttered and unnatural if each instrument has a different type of reverb.
I found that a very subtle delay often works better than reverb for making an instrument less dry.
For me, it also helps me mix more consistently when I know I can find verbs on their own channel etc.
In terms of quality, usually synth reverbs are not as strong as dedicated reverbs. But if a built in reverb works for a sound, I will sometimes just roll with it, and maybe bounce it down reverb included.

If you want to compress the sound first you might want to use a third party reverb after that.

There's one think not being good when using reverb of a Vsti when you use compressor and eq on buss track, it will affect the reverb, too, often in a bad way, it's better to have reverb outside a buss afaik

Reverb should be turned off or at least kept to their minimum settings whilst producing a track. Too much reverb creates many problems.

Or of course you could go maverick and apply just the right amount and type of reverb per source that your mix requires.THE INTRANCER wrote: Tue Aug 08, 2023 7:03 pm Reverb should be turned off or at least kept to their minimum settings whilst producing a track. Not really a synth in a reverb, but Razor's reverb is "faked" by the synth engine. I also read here recently that Harmor does the same thing. Both additive synths, so I think a lot of the effects and the filters are just clever imitations which are really being generated by the manipulation of partials.
But no, not a synth in a reverb.

I've found it pretty rare that onboard reverb really impresses me (and some are just straight-up awful like Thorn's.) I'll only really use it in the rare case I want to modulate it with one of the synths modulation sources, other than that it's almost always a separate effect.
i can't really make music

How about Moog player on the toilet? Is it the same technique?replicant X wrote: Thu Aug 10, 2023 1:11 pm Unless you're trying to recreate 70s rock with a mini Moog player on stage, reverb followed by compression is a very common technique.
