Question for people who own these - is there a break-in period for these headphones like most headphones, or do they come essentially calibrated to the software out of the box? If it’s the latter, is there a “burn-out” period where they become less accurate?

Headphone break in or burn in is very likely just a psychological thing, so I’d say no to that.cryophonik wrote: Wed Aug 09, 2023 2:55 am Question for people who own these - is there a break-in period for these headphones like most headphones, or do they come essentially calibrated to the software out of the box? Burn out shouldn’t be an issue either so long as you’re not driving them into distortion for extended periods

Thanks for that. I’m seriously considering a pair of these.

The only burnout I’ve experienced is using these without the software.andymcbain wrote: Wed Aug 09, 2023 8:35 amHeadphone break in or burn in is very likely just a psychological thing, so I’d say no to that.cryophonik wrote: Wed Aug 09, 2023 2:55 am Question for people who own these - is there a break-in period for these headphones like most headphones, or do they come essentially calibrated to the software out of the box? Friend bought them, has been with them for about two weeks soon, and said he could not believe how good the lowend is on the headphones. He only has the default package of rooms but still has already mixed his latest tunes much much better than before.cryophonik wrote: Wed Aug 09, 2023 2:29 pm Thanks for that. Really, highly recommended if one doesnt have possibility to dampen out the room acoustics - and that usually costs much more than 299, and more than 499 too.
Our latest release (https://softknees.bandcamp.com/album/three-tales-ep) is 90% mixed & mastered with VSX, the rest is HS80m and various other places to test in real enviroments - and you know what? Even after doing VSX premix while still producing they did start to translate really well how we wanted.

I’m on the verge of buying these, but I see Slate has a Black Friday sale announcement on their website. Looking back through this thread and on Gearspace, I don’t see any mention of them discounting the headphones, but it looks like maybe the rooms go on sale for a pretty good discount? Can anyone confirm? It’s got me thinking that I could buy the $299 version and add a few more rooms on BF, or should I just go for the full version and get all the rooms and future rooms? Hmmmm….

They didn't put it on sale officially in the store, but they may have sent you a limited time coupon code via email if you have essentials. So check your email! I opened a support ticket earlier today and they told me "check your email later" and sure enough!cryophonik wrote: Sun Nov 19, 2023 3:56 pm I’m on the verge of buying these, but I see Slate has a Black Friday sale announcement on their website. I haven’t received an email and there’s no sale price in the store for the Platinum upgrade.

Is anyone here using VSX with Wavelab? I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to route them out to a specific headphone output in my Apollos in the same manner that I set up in Logic. I'll try to explain...
I have an Apollo X6 tethered (daisychained) directly via Thunderbolt to an Apollo Twin X. In Logic, I route the stereo output channel to the Apollo X6 and to my monitors and the X6's headphone outs. I also have a bus set up in Logic specifically for VSX. All channels have a send to this VSX bus so that I have a parallel routing of the entire mix. The VSX bus is routed to a virtual bus in my Apollos and sent to the cue output of the Twin X only. This allows me to monitor directly with my Genelecs and my other (non-VSX) headphones via the X6, while also having the ability to monitor simultaneously on my VSX headphones through a dedicated cue output on the Twin X.
My typical process is to export a .wav file of the final mixdown from Logic and "master" it in Wavelab. Ideally, I would like to keep my routing the same so I can master the track by monitoring directly through the X6's outputs while simultaneously being able to monitor VSX through a separate and parallel virtual bus. However, in Wavelab, I can't seem to find a way to route a single .wav file to more than one output. Obviously, VSX needs to be on a playback monitoring effects slot so it doesn't print the VSX effect, but it only seems to go the main output selected in Preferences. Does anybody know if there's a way to route the VSX plugin to a different and parallel output/bus than the main output in Wavelab? I'm on Wavelab 11.2 fwiw.
Hopefully that all makes sense!

I've been using them for a while now, and while they're ok, I keep thinking that maybe there could be better headphones.. like combine Focal Clear Pro with Realphones ? I don't think all of the issues can be solved in software alone, that's why we have so many microphones. Has anyone switched from VSX to other pair of phones + other headphone software/plugn?

The best results you can get with headphones are from Sennheiser 650/660S with your own custom correction profile that you make yourself using ARC4 and the included proprietary MEMS microphone.
This is scientifically proven.

Interesting. I’ll have to check it out this evening. Hopefully it makes things sound better for me. The VSX system is certainly effective, but I can’t say that I enjoy mixing with them. They make the overall mix sound terrible and boxy no matter which room I’m using. The real “woah!” moment for me comes when I finish my VSX mix then hear the results on my AKGs or Genelecs.
