Houmous.

We went for our works Christmas do last Friday to a Lebanese restaurant (grr, thats a word in itself!). Anyway, the meal started at 8pm, so naturally a few of us were in the pub by 4, drinking tequilas and strong lager. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I turned up pissed as a fart, sat down at the table, started banging on it and chanting , 'houmous, houmous, homous, where's the f**king houmous?'. Big bosses were not too pleased.... :hihi: But it is a very lame word....

Well, being a Southerner, and having seen this stuff in stores all my life...

(edited because I can't stand the sight of this! )

... um, I don't know what's in it either. :-D

It's kind of like scrapple -- a mixture of the bits of a pig that really shouldn't be eaten.

oh, no, sir -- not THAT omnivorous

Mexicans would love it. Being that one of their favourite snack foods is "chicharron", the original pork rind. Except they don't hack it into little bits first, instead deep frying an entire pig skin at once and then carting it about slung under an arm, breaking off pieces and dousing them with hot sauce as the snacking urge sets upon them.

Can't reply to the thread without another lame word, though:

Pluck (as in, "that boy has a lot of pluck"). No, he's energetic and motivated. Pluck is something you do to de-feather a roasting hen. In THAT context, not lame. But in the first usage, lame.

penis -- really, that must be in the high 90s

limpid -- that is supposed to mean clear?

nutritious -- just don't like the sound *shudder*

gorgeous -- not sure if it's lame, but it is upsetting

livid -- only used by drama queens of any orientation

competencies -- gaaa!!!

teachings -- only used by insipid new-age types

WARNING: VARIETY MEATS AHEAD! Not for the lily-livered!

[safety space -- read no farther if you plan to eat any time soon, and don't like haggis]

Another meaning of "pluck" -- the heart, liver, and "lights" (lungs, because they're very light in weight) of a sheep or other food animal. Optionally included in this delicacy: "pipes" (trachea and bronchii), "skirt" (diaphragm), and "melt" (blood).

:-P

Think I'll pass on this! Braunschweiger is about as earthy a variety meat as I care to eat. :-D

After thinking about souse, realization struck: I do indeed eat something very closely related to one of the main components in souse.

Originally made from the bits of the pig that the fine people up in the big house wouldn't eat, but the po' folks made something out of it that was savory and filling -- PORK BARBECUE!

Most soul food I can leave alone. But not pork barbecue. It's one of my favorite foods in the world, and has been since I was a very small kit. =^_^=

Oops, I should add another lame word.

Good Smaritan (or however you spell that annoying word)

Man, I only read a few pages of this thread but I have to disagree with 90% of the submitted words here on the basis that they all make me laugh my ass off.
How bad can they be?

Anway, how about
offspring
bedpan
pedophile
plagiarism
miniscule
iota
cleavage
camel-toe
flambe'
sincere
sanctimonious
salutation
floppy
cremate
and last but not least, a word that is forever ruined for me...bush. That also includes all its offspring , such as bushleague, bushel, bushed, etc...

Post

Have we had flaccid?

Post

Most hours of the day, yup.

But every now and then, that situation changes.

;)

Another lame word: spunk

N I C E

One of the most annoying overused and misused of the English language. The original meaning of nice is to describe something that is neat and precise...like the nice crease in a pair of crisply ironed trousers.

But, nice is now used to convey pleasantness and mediocrity. He is a nice guy...shall we go for a drink ? yeah, that'll be nice. Lame.
