nOb Control alternatives?

I just ordered a Surface Dial for $75. Going to give this a whirl and if it doesn't work out take it back to Best Buy. I hope this is going to be the solution to my automation needs. Thanks for sharing the information everybody.

Update: Man this thing friggin' rocks. I would not hesitate to recommend. My tracks have become so dynamic since buying this! A1.

What's wrong with the nOb? It's a fantastic device.

Nothing at all wrong nOb! It's just that it's sold out at the moment. Also, I've read that overseas shipping has taken months in some cases due to the current global situation. I believe that nOb can only be purchased directly through the makers themselves.

i waited about a month for mine, not overseas - but it's amazing. Best controller i ever bought.

Bumping an old thread here but just came across this when searching "nob control alternatives" on google.

This Surface Dial + Elephant combo could be a winner. Just wondering how the physical feel of the knob is? Is it smooth and "glidey"? Kind of weighty like a hardware feel? Or is it more light and plasticky feeling?

Also, can you edit the knob sensitivity in the software?

Its a heavy metal machined knob - very smooth and glidey feels sturdy and expensive in hand.

Feels like a very high end vintage hifi tower or some medical equipment more than some audio hardware tho. (As audio pots tend to have lots of friction - this doesnt)

Yes you can edit, sensitivity + tons more stuff such as keystrokes (for i.e jogging) and also modifiers.

Personally I was really disappointed with it and resold the Dial. It never felt natural or reliable to me.

I'd never heard of the nOb before this thread. Initially I wondered WTF, but actually it really tempts me now. Seems a bit pricey, but it's a great idea, especially as I use a laptop. Difficult with fine tweaks on channels etc. Hmmmmmm

You can save a (switchable) preset that enables a key combo (usually control or command) when adjusting so it uses that by default to enable “precise adjustments” on plugins that have it

I've been using this successfully. It can't do nearly as much as when the Dial is used with Windows but scroll mode simulates a mouse wheel, which I find useful when I'm working on my laptop.
