I love a lot of schmaltzy stuff, too much to individually list. To me, everything can't be considered critically accepted and "cool" like the Velvet Underground, (which I love too) and I like all types of songs, bands, music, etc. There should be no guilty pleasures in listening to something and liking it. I always felt that every band and artist had different aims for what they were trying to do, so I don't compare Throbbing Gristle to something Frank Sinatra did, but they both clicked to me in what they were aiming to produce in their own ways.
Some types of stuff I love that is possibly schmaltzy to someone else:
Loads of '60s, '70s AM radio type hits, (whether it was from a One-Hit Wonder or established artists)
Loads of classic disco and dance songs from that era
Loads of late 50s-early 60s Easy Listening instrumentals
Lots of throwaway '80s type stuff etc.
I don't have any stuff that I am ashamed to listen to on my shelves, maybe I should though?

Johnny Mathis has more than a few schmaltzy greats:
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

Everyone seems to be making industrial covers of this one lately, but the original has schmaltz for sure.
