Hello KVR.
Demoing Fabfilter Saturn 2 and really loving it but I'm desperate to reduce how much I'm spending on plugins (aren't we all?). Is there anything with comparable sound quality and capabilities that is more affordable? Thanks in advance.

With all the modulation ? Not much, I am sure Melda has something but Saturn is easier to use.
Saturn is kind of unique, there are several distortion plugins that have many algorithms and some modulation, but not as much as saturn and saturn can create more bands.
I think somthing simpler and good sounding is Rc20, but honestly just get saturn since it is even more flexible.

If two bands are enough for you, then Arturia Coldfire is kind of similar - albeit it doesn't have any amp-sims (which include cabinets in Saturn too) - but then again these sound like ass anyway...

I wonder how Neutron or Ozone compares. There you also have a few saturation / distortion algorithms you can apply in multi-band fashion.
iZotope plugins don't seem to be very popular here, but I wonder how they would compare. To me they make a solid impression. And you can get them very cheap if you buy the last version used.

- Minimal Audio Rift 2.0 - $79 on sale right now
- Excite Audio Motion: Harmonic - $59 on sale right now
- Output Thermal - can get it for $10 per month via Splice rent-to-own, although I wouldn't recommend (way too pricey)

Wavesfactory Spectre is a nice flexible multiband saturator.
Ultimately I don't think anything really matches up to Saturn. I held off on getting it until very recently, but I think it's best in class. Rift is fun for other reasons though.

It's a great all-round solution that I reach for in 90% of the cases.

Saturn 2 is certainly one of the best, and a good investment.
Anyway if you are searching for a cheaper mb saturation, hold till the end of the month cause a new plugin will be released at a very affordable price.
Can't say anything more but if you can wait, you can try the demo and see if match your needs

You are searching to get alternative because you are already spending alot? What logic is that. Just get the thing instead because you already going to spend money, just not on the thing you want.
