XCTR Multiband Distortion

Not sure if Spectre can technically be considered a multi-band saturator, but I might be splitting hairs...
It's quite unique and in my opinion covers a lot of territory that Saturn doesn't. Overall though Saturn is much more versatile.

Sixth sample F(l)atter is multiband and has a multitude of distortion algos.

Post

Any opinions on Sixth Sample F(l)atter vs Saturn?

Another open source option for multiband distortion is Wingz Fire https://github.com/jerryuhoo/Fire ... not nearly as polished, but free.

You will eventually buy Saturn 2 because you will realize how great it is AND it will add to the total cost of whatever you are trying to buy to save money AND THEN you will have spent MORE money than it’s necessary just by TRYING to save money. :dog:

Rift 2 is amazing, go for that

Unfiltered Audio has some good distortions as well imo. E.g. Dent etc...

A tutorial on steroids. This is the only saturation plugin I own.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks. I will demo a few and see how they sound.

I know, I know. I'm demoing Saturn now and freaking love it. It feels inevitable. But I've spent an appalling amount of $ recently, and if I can somehow save a few bucks, I'm keen. Let's not get into my economic logic here, that way lies madness 🤪

Take your time but that video I posted is a must. This thing does more than just simple Saturation...

If the modulation of Saturn is what appeals to you, your alternatives seem limited to Rift 2, Arturia Dist Coldfire, or the discontinued Trash 2 ...

Upon reflection I don't see F(l)atter as a comparable to Saturn 2, so my earlier question is moot. But for the same price as Saturn 2, one could essentially buy Rift 2, SDRR and F(l)atter (while Rift is on sale) and get a tremendous multiband distortion/saturation suite.

+1 Coldfire, that thing is AAA-mazing.

Saturn is really versatile but the underlying saturation algorithms are in the good/great, but not exceptional, category, in my opinion. PSP Saturator for example sounds far better when pushed hard in most of its modes - or even Pulsar Massive when driven. I just don't think Saturn sounds very "analog" I guess - which is an annoying thing to say about digital plugins but hey.

That was my impression, too, on version 1 of Saturn. Lots of options and a really nice GUI, but the underlying "sound" didn't do it for me.
A well-behaved signature.

Yeah. I even forgot I have saturn 2. I reach for coldfire way way way more often. (Actually think this and their lx 224 are Arturia's best plugins currently).

Another to consider as well is Waves Multimod Rack with Saturator, Bezerk & the distortion modules. No amps though
