Why do some companies secretly install Pro Tools plugins on my system?

to search my whole computer for "Avid" and delete any instances of it. simple.

They are lazy as hell. They pay all that money for installshield, I'd think they'd want to get actual use out of it and allow more options.

If you buy perfume here, you usually get one or even two perfumes in addition. Never saw anyone complaining.
If you don't like these additional perfumes, simply throw them away.
When I install plugins I usually see what is being installed during installation, so. It's not a secret process!
After installation simply use a searching tool. For example write omnipressor.
Results maybe:
omnipressor.dll
omnipressor.vst3
omnipressor.aax

You don't need aax? Delete it!
It doesn't take much time and
you don't install a new plugin every day, do you?

Looks like many of us had no idea aax plugins were being installed and were wondering where the space on our drives was disappearing to. A company putting junk on your computer without telling you bears no relation to a lady purchasing perfume and receiving additional products up front. If they broke into her house and hid them in her perfume drawer, that might be a better comparison.

i know it is there and i usually check that avid folder in 'common files' (window$) every now and again but even though i always deselect aax from being installed... i had 2.34Gb since the last dump lol thnx for the reminder. seems one needs to check even after plugin updates from group installers. not everyone has poo tools or use it anymore but EVERYONE needs to check and remove that aax crap. (unless you use poo tools) and yes it is pure laziness on the part of developers to just dump crap on our computers without notice or option but then again it is up to us to maintain and clean up said systems.

Almost. A slightly more accurate analogy might be, if after sneaking into the customer's property under false pretences (with the customer thinking they were getting one thing, while unbeknownst to them, also receiving another), the vendor then placed their unsolicited wares into a miscellaneous/random drawer, that the non-Avid customer, neither wanting nor expecting any delivery thereof, would never think to check for its whereabouts.

As evidenced by all the users on this topic who were hitherto unaware of the masses of unwanted Avid bloat on their devices, only discovering this now, due to this topic being posted.

It's more akin to a gardner 'fly tipping' behind the shed in the back garden of a paying client, who only employed the tradesman's services to trim the hedges in their front lawn.

Or perhaps, a plumber taking a huge dump in your upstairs toilet without permission, and partially blocking up its pipes in the process, after you employed them to install your downstairs faucet.

Disgraceful, lazy/arrogant attitude/behaviour from these 'third-party' audio software companies.
