I think she probably recorded at night in her bedroom and they were too lazy to rerecord the vocals professionally, so they just left the crickets in and made the best of it. I'd expect more from a top pop singer tbh.

sounds legit. they probably created the videos afterwards to cover it all up, too.

I can see you're being sarcastic here, but listen to the video. The track she's harmonizing to already has main vocals from bedroom in it with the crickets bleeding into the microphone, TBH good job to the producer for actually quantizing the crickets and making the lazy bedroom recording sound good though. Why didn't they just rerecord main vocals? Maybe it was grande's decision, I don't know.
