So what happened: A minute or two after uploading my last track to my SC Pro account I got a message like “we cannot find this user” and a notification from SC with these content:
We are writing to you today to let you know that your account has been permanently removed on the grounds of being dedicated to violating our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines which state:
(viii) You must not use the Platform to upload, post, store, transmit, display, copy, distribute, promote, make available or otherwise communicate to the public:
Any Content that is abusive, libellous, defamatory, pornographic or obscene, that promotes or incites violence, terrorism, illegal acts, or hatred on the grounds of race, ethnicity, cultural identity, religious belief, disability, gender, identity or sexual orientation, or is otherwise objectionable in SoundCloud’s reasonable discretion;
When an account is removed for violating these Terms, your account, tracks, followers and stats are removed from our platform and you are permanently banned from returning to SoundCloud.
We take the security of our community very seriously and we hope that you can understand that SoundCloud is a place for people to share content that respects our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines.
The track contained this comment from Werner Herzog about the jungle and feature his ambivalent conflict with nature:

The text only version is available on IMDB (1st quote):
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083702/ch ... /nm0001348

So I replied back two times, linked the Werner Herzog comment on Youtube, quoted it’s text (wich contains some buzz words of course) and asked for a review. The answer (04:22 on Friday) was a reference to their first mail:
Here at SoundCloud we uphold the safety of users as a top priority, and recognise the users’ freedom of speech and expression, thus we always strive to be fair and objective in our decision making.
Your account has been taken down for objectionable content, and after further review we have deemed your account to be in breach of our Terms of Use. Your account will remain suspended and when an account is terminated for violating these terms, your account, tracks, followers and stats are removed from our platform and you are permanently banned from returning to SoundCloud.
For more information on the which terms were breached, please refer to our previous email.
Please note that SoundCloud reserves the right to suspend any accounts immediately without prior warning that we believe to be dedicated to violating activity.
After this my last reply last friday got a bit harsh ; )
can you please respond to the questionable content? There is simply no content which would be able to breach your Terms of Use in any objectionable way.
The used content contains a kind of philosophical comment from Werner Herzog to the jungle and feature his ambivalent conflict with nature. Your AI instance was obviously triggered f.i. by the word “collective murder” and took an unsupervised decision without taking attention to the context (I quoted the text in my last reply). It’s decision based obviously on a misinterpretation, it seems that it’s just comparing bad words. This is so obviously a faulty behavior of AI so can you please let a human employe take a look on it.
I built up my account over several years and in the face of it’s scope it may not be important for you to invest some human attention to this case but this is such an absurd example of bad algorithms that I wanna give you the opportunity to reflect this before making it public.
In 2018 I had a refused track wich I tried to upload two times but even if SC is summing up such cases the point here is elsewhere.
Does anyone experienced such surprises here?
Btw: my track is still available on Youtube (no, this shouldn't be a strange promo):

Since your music is a lot of beeps and bops anyway, why don't you beep out all XXX words? :D
If you plan on purchasing your first Universal Audio hardware, you can get a free additional plugin. Just send a PM.

He's defaming... the jungle?

They probably did a cursory review and took it as inciting bigotry against people who live in the jungle. Not really a fair assessment....

Most likely you got banned by an algorithm and are now talking to a chatbot. Learn more about this type of situation by watching the movie Brazil.

(I like your track, though)

The above is correct. No point arguing.
And if you ever want to say anything with your music get used to being banned. I mean it. There is an unwritten rule of censorship against anything that could be offensive...
Sinead O'Conner was a top-40 singer, ripped up a picture on TV and was never seen in America again

And she was 100% correct.

No, my digital sovereignty is a high priority so I keep my content offline whenever possible, while for the rest I occasionally self-host. I have no interest in uploading to a third-party platform where I have to agree to their terms and conditions at the risk of being censored or worse.

ill sample it and see what happens :)

This is the only way to avoid what I fear is going to become a bigger and bigger problem.

The weird part of this is the total ban. I get that their stupid bot thinks you’re saying something horrible, and that’s a huge problem for society, but to do a full ban on a paying customer? That’s weird. Why not just refuse to host the track?

You’d think the algorithm would just flag it for a human to review before deleting it, let alone an automatic insta-ban. I pretty much stopped using SoundCloud years ago when it started going downhill. Might be time to just delete my account altogether if this is the direction it’s going.

I agree that this clip probably made some content algorithm spit out it’s coffee upon hearing it, before smashing the ban button lol. On top of all the buzz words, the way he pronounces “jungle” sounds like “jungy” or chungy”, and with how things are now days, something just has to sound vaguely offensive to be ruled as such.

You could be signaling or dog whistling after all!

I’m casually learning Japanese and theres some words I’m like “yup, I can never say that in public here in the US” because it kinda sorta sounds like a slur in English.

Because a partial ban (of just the offending track) isn’t extreme enough for a company to send the message “Look! We are on your side! We banned the use for life! Please don’t come after us! We are good! Oh God please don’t #cancel us!”

Yay hyper polarized societies.
