Remnant sounds great when you are just playing around with it but whenever I have tried to use it in a song, it hasn't worked. What it does is too finely detailed, it just gets lost in a mix.

try xfer's OTT (is free) on Remnant to glue/underline/ressurect the minute details and edges.

I don't really care that much, TBH. If I have to add an effect to an effect to make it work, I'll find something else.

I agree with you! Really cool granular effet no doubt, but very strangely only when used solo lol and played by itself. As you said, when used in a whole track or a mix it weirdly gets drowned and unnoticed. I have more success in term of usability with some other granulators. Not sure why...

Post

A lot of granular tools need a lil touch of upward compression to push the details into the mix.
I add 50% of the N.O.T.T. preset in Multipass to about a third of my channels...

If you like a sound and it doesn’t seem to work in the mix, its never the fault of the sound. The fault is either in the mix or in the arrangement/composition… You simply need to give it the space it deserves…

I think the issue with effects of this kind is that they often take up large amounts of spectrum. So individually they sound great and very hi-fi, but then tend to fade into the background on any given track. It's not always easily fixable in the mix either -- you need to go back to the original sound and shape it a fair bit, and often the results end up being unpredictable.

Post

I would, as I said before, rather shape the other parts of the track. If you just let it shine in a drop and just don’t let any drums kill it…

Apologies for Necro'ing this thread but I was researching on Tantrum and Remnant, wondering why they're all "out of stock" on CI's website. And I came upon this on their Dicord:
Providing support, and running a business while working full time is alot of work and we're probably taking a break. Sorry for the disappointing news, but it is what it is. Take care
Anyone knows more?

Love it! Good on him/her/them for not allowing themselves to be slaves to other people's annoyances.

That's actually ridiculous. The song is important, the sounds are not. If a sound doesn't work in a mix, it is most definitely the wrong sound. You could still use Remnant in an outro, it's not necessarily a total waste of time.
