I agree that this clip probably made some content algorithm spit out it’s coffee upon hearing it, before smashing the ban button lol. On top of all the buzz words, the way he pronounces “jungle” sounds like “jungy” or chungy”, and with how things are now days, something just has to sound vaguely offensive to be ruled as such.

You could be signaling or dog whistling after all!

I’m casually learning Japanese and theres some words I’m like “yup, I can never say that in public here in the US” because it kinda sorta sounds like a slur in English.

The weird part of this is the total ban. I get that their stupid bot thinks you’re saying something horrible, and that’s a huge problem for society, but to do a full ban on a paying customer? That’s weird. Why not just refuse to host the track?

Because a partial ban (of just the offending track) isn’t extreme enough for a company to send the message “Look! We are on your side! We banned the use for life! Please don’t come after us! We are good! Oh God please don’t #cancel us!”

Yeah, I’m not sure what the solution is, but I’m sure that the current state of affairs is not going to work. Legitimate content is more likely to get flagged than actual content violations, because people have been hiding meaning in words and memes for a long time. I get that AI can sometimes be an effective triage mechanism, but without it eventually having a process where the human can appeal, especially before something as drastic as a permanent ban… well it’s going to suck.

A long time ago, Twitter temp banned me because I said that encouraging people to not take a proven safe and effective vaccine was similar to encouraging people to not wear seatbelts. My response was to never go back. They are using my content to make money. So they can do whatever they want, but not with me. Looks like that’s the trend, and I doubt they’ll last long. SoundCloud is nothing without us. I feel that they did the OP a favor.

I was just in Mexico and there was some produce carts with hand written signs on them. I was curious about what they said, so I used Google translate to translate them with the camera function. The results made no sense. I found a woman who worked there spoke English and she explained the phrases. They were idioms. One basically said, “if you don’t like what you have, change your husband.” I forget what Google came up with, but it wasn’t that.
