Yes, the granular engine is really really good. I also love the simple but effective sample editor.

Cool. Thanks._leras wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 10:24 pmI think it's strengths are quite organic and percussive sounds. Drum like, piano and marimba like.liv wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2023 11:30 am
What are the strengths and perhaps weaknessess or missing categories regarding the included presets from your perspective?
I haven't particularly got synth sounds out of it that I liked more than from anything else. Not to say it can't do these, but not my preference so far.
** I haven't gone really deep on it though, as I have ended up reaching for other things.
The interface is awesome thoughz really nice to work with. I maybe just haven't found the right combinations.of wavetable and filter for my synth tastes.

This synth is a joy but I'm making patches without too much complexity that hit 50% CPU. Am on the last gen top line Intel iMac so no slouch but am considering a switch to M2 shortly. Anyone benchmarked Pigments with an M2 chip?

At least the new 303 filter + (maybe) distortion is a given for the next update.

The itch in my big toe of the left foot tells me that there should be a 4.5 update not so far away.
Nothing offical of course. Just a guess on my side.

Could also be a hint that I should wash my feet anyway.

yeah, shower water with dirty soap foam not enough for feet, you need wash well or they stink fishy during summer

Here are three sequencer sounds I did in Arturia Pigments 4. I tried to redo some favourite patches/techniques from my eurorack.
The basic idea is to get new rhythmic modulation patterns by twiddling the macro knobs. All sounds are driven by a simple 16th arp. LFO1 waveform gets folded by Remap function in Combinate 3 module. A futher sample and hold is triggered by the arp and creates the rhythmic pattern.
The macro knobs alter LFO1 waveform, symmetry and phase. Macro 4 alters filter or osc fm depth. So it's very easy to get dozens of different modulation pattern just by tweaking the macro knobs.
1. Sequenzarium
For those early days driving synthlines. CC1 is global cutoff, macro 4 is filter fm depth.

2. Sequenzarium Filter FM
A sine osc fm-ing a resonating MS20 filter. Think of toms, bongos and other zipps. CC1 is global filter fm depth.

3. Sequenzarium FM
More FM bongos.

So just download the patches for Pigments 4 and have fun. Don't forget to insert your favourite delay.

I like the sounds in general, but, they show the issue I have with Pigments a bit: It just sounds a bit bland and generic. I made some sounds with it yesterday, and pretty quickly turned to other synths again for these sounds. What it does nicely are pad sounds though. But, for rather analog sounds or sequences, I definitely would use other synths.
Just my opinion.

Where you using the internal synth engine? If always find that part to be the weakest part of Pigments. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but I feel the oscillators need to go to 11 and start glowing a bit.chk071 wrote: Mon Sep 18, 2023 8:03 am I made some sounds with it yesterday, and pretty quickly turned to other synths again for these sounds. Just a thought. Try seeing Pigments as a semi-modular environment. I found it to be very helpful to create your own templates rather than using the factory init. That way you can also do some routing with the effects to have a dedicated block to just saturate the signal a bit.

I'm completely on your side. Almost only use Pigments for sample/granular/fm experiments.
Someting like this:
https://soundcloud.com/pocvecem/pigments-zebra-fm
Thats just a sample of ZebraHZ, moving thru the sound with modwheel fm-ed by a sinewave, tweaking pitch and mod-depth with macros. And some Valhalla Übermod on top.
Those 3 Sequenzarium patches were more of a modulation study for myself.
And keep in mind that those are completely dry. Make some use of hipass-eq + saturation/overdrive + early refections.
