define 'song' without recursion?

I have no time to finish songs anymore. I spend all of my time in dasen "threat of A.I." threads.

Is there a quota? I should check my junk folder because I don’t recall that memo.

My dad once told me, son, in this life you will bump into people that seemingly have no purpose. But rest assured, God has a purpose for everybody.
Dasen, after reading these questions from you, I can safely say my dad f**king lied to me.
Ask not what your DAW can do for you, but what you can do with your DAW

I finish zero songs a month... it seems I get caught up just playing guitar, all I want to do these days is practice scales. Recording is tough! So many decisions

The less you know the less time you need to finish the song (3-7 days tops). You just don't care about all that nonsense "does it sound good in stereo and mono, on iphone and in a car?". You are idea generator, not quality music generator

Then the more you become aware of such important details and their influence on the overall quality of the sound, the more time it takes to reach that satisfaction "this track sounds as good as I want it to be". Because you still aren't professional enough to work quick with such knowledge and you need time to check all the possible solutions, so it increases time 10 fold.

And again after you become real (if ever) professional, it becomes quite quick process since you know pretty much everything by then and can do all this process blind and as quick as in your early days when it took you 3-7 days to make full track.

That's my philosophy. I'm personally in that middle stage. But do not expect ever to become a professional like that.

None. My focus is on proficiency/dexerity and nothing else. Self-expression is all I seek.

fot years and years too

in scrabble, it's important to know many words first
or vocabulary

in musicmaking it's important to have many building blocks first
or vocabulary

:D

nah, i'm just a slacker when it comes to making music
but i'm one busy bee when it comes to just playing speed scrabble

so, there
that's my answer to the topic's question of "why not?"

As many as possible, I work on music almost every day.

It might work out to 6-8 finished monthly.
(That does not include mixing, I do that mostly at the end of a project).

I say this as somebody who's pretty prolific...

...I don't make music just to feel productive.

Unless you have a recording contract, which I don't think many people here do, there is no quota. Nobody (who matters) will judge you for not being "pro", or for not finishing anything, not releasing albums or playing live gigs. Make music in the way that makes you feel good.

Also it makes no sense to compare your own rate of finishing stuff to anyone else's. We all have different circumstances, different processes, and we find different things important.

And all that said, I do enjoy finishing things and releasing albums. I don't have a particular goal for number of releases per year or anything like that though. I have kind of a natural pace that works out on average. It allows for taking some time here and there to just chill, or to intentionally work on technique or explore a piece of gear without the goal of finishing something.
