Finally worked out the fix for the Digitakt drifting from the DAW beat in Reaper.
Somewhat counter-intuitive I had to turn Sync off in the Digitakt overbridge plugin and then send clock to the Digitakt from Reaper with "Do not send SPP" and all was good.

Did a little jam with the DT, a MicroFreak on chords, Bro-1 on bass and Crave on lead. The Bro-1 is pretty awesome with bass sequencing, got to say. I just wish all the lovely filter controls etc were available directly via MIDI cc. I could rope in the modular, but that cramps the space up horribly.

Maybe look to find a cheap tiny eurorack skiff that would let me stick in a few clock syncable LFOs with attenuation and offset plus that CV recorder module I have. I was thinking of getting that Behringer Batumi knock off, but actually already have some fun units like the Octocontroller ADE-32 I could swap in plus an Ornament and Crime I don't use enough.

Gets closer to the concept I had ages ago of using separate racks for things like LFOs and filters which I shot down almost immediately because I will always want at least one LFO and one filter so means always having to use all the racks.

Just realised I could even use the Euclidean Circles V2 module I haven't touched for ages as a tap tempo clock source.

Ended up with this, which works for now

Recorded two tracks yesterday. Both of them started with generative patches and both in 18EDO enneatonic scales, but one was a slow ambient ramble and the other was a psuedo-frame drum/gamelan sort of thing. Way more percussive than I usually do, so the next track will have to be more of a pure drone and noise thing to balance it.

I also messed around in Bitwig Grid trying to get slew to work right with MPE pressure -- something that's been frustrating me up until now. But I'll post about that in the Bitwig forum.

Finally started to go back and listen to the tracks I have been laying down since April and mixed one. The mix turned out good. :)
Its a good feeling and now I am beginning to hear the direction of the next CD.

A couple more tunes mixed, that last one was complex and took hours.
There is always the next step, listening outside the studio.

There was this studio that used a small radio transmitter so when the mixes were done, the band could go out to their cars and have a listen.
I always thought that was a brilliant idea.

My brother got one from army surplus when we were young.
He had a pirate radio station on campus that all the students could listen to.
The antenna was attached to a mop head and stuck out the window.
There was like a 800 person listening range.

Lots of friends would show up and guest DJ and make fake advertisements for absurd products that didn't exists.

Best radio station ever.......

I've got a bunch of projects in the air. Finally starting to see the finish line for a few of them.
I have two videos which I thought were close to complete but I decided to go a different way with one of them, so I'm going to re-shoot most of the video for that.

I have a performance scheduled for the 23rd. It's a 30min solo set, which is longer than the sets I was playing earlier in the year. I'm getting material ready for that.

In November I'll be doing a presentation about using piezo mics and making simple electric shaker boxes.

Even though I've messed around with non-12 equal temperament tunings (particularly 7edo, and more recently 18edo) I didn't understand a lot about microtonality and different tuning systems, and wanted to fix my ignorance. So I recently read The Arithmetic of Listening: Tuning Theory and History for the Impractical Musician. I admit to just skimming a lot once I got through certain parts of it, but still, now I know what "1/4 comma meantone" and stuff like that is.

So last night I fired up a pure sine synth voice, and just listened to some intervals and chords with different tunings using Bitwig Micro-Pitch. Good old equal temperament, JI, meantone, well temperaments, etc. And holy shit, I actually heard it this time, and it was kind of startling. Those pure fifths and triads in JI with no beating whatsoever are actually pretty creepy. It's easily masked by more complex timbres, busier music, and especially stuff like chorus or just sloppy intonation in general. But now it has a reality for me, where before I just thought a lot of medieval Europeans were way too into the Pythagoras cult for their own good.

Still contemplating what I'm going to do with this info, if anything.

Part of it was I saw "the Impractical Musician" and thought "hey, that's me!" :hihi:

But I'm not going to go building a piano with 53 keys per octave, I may be impractical but I'm also clumsy and lazy.

Actually laid down some guide tracks for a song that's in 8/4 time. I'm very rusty at this, but once I get this far on something new, it becomes fun.

That always reminds me of this Ramones song “I Don’t Want To Go Down To The Basement”. They’re famous for Joey’s “1,2,3,4…” intros, but this one has a double time section and he does a “1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8…”

Took me a bit of experimenting to get the tempo right, laid down a simple beat to follow, then did rhythm and lead guitars. And a flute mellotron, and a Hive pad. It's enough to get me started.

For 5/4, I think of 'Take 5' and 'Everything's Alright' from JC Superstar. 7/4 is 'Money.'
This is my only tune in a weird meter. The Missus says it's her favourite unfinished song by me.

we had a rubbish outfit (literally played old junk) for a workshop at school, urban strawberry lunch...
they used things like (the one i remember from 40 years ago...)
