Sticks are easier and more comfortable for people without hands or fingers than using wheels I'd imagine.

I quite fancy the silver one, but I'm not going to sell my Wavestate v1 just for a bit of bling...maybe.

In the case of the Wavestate, which has four sounds (called programs) per multi (called performances), the joystick is intended to morph through the four sounds - basically vector synthesis. You can even set up a simple (5-point?) path to automate the joystick position vs time.

yes I know that, but that isn't the ones I am talking about.
Traditionally Roland and Korg use Joysticks for pitch in one axis and mod and breath controller in the other.

This one uses wheels.

I am talking about the things hilited in oval that control, pitch bends and mod, not the one you speaking about indicated by the arrow.

It's just the same PCB put in a larger case, which is why it looks a bit odd, and why the joystick is in a silly place. Not worth the extra money imo (I own the original Wavestate and Wavestate Native) but go ahead with your fancy keyboard.
