It's too bad that there is no universal export file standard for 303 sequence patterns that can be used to share them between 303 hardware and plugins. Some 303 plugins, such as Audio Blast's AcidBox, can import patterns from other 303 plugins (e.g. Phoscyon and ABL).

I suppose being able to export to a MIDI file for use in a DAW works well enough, if you plan on using the 303 with a DAW. MIDI files are themselves a great universal file standard, except that most plugins do not support import from MIDI files (I remember how thrilled I was when Cakewalk added MIDI file import to the z3ta+ version 2 plugin's arpeggiator).

Arturias Emu smokes Phoscion2 (own it) to ashes

Phoscion2 annoys me with a thin and sharp sound where the Acid V is fat and meaty.
Especially the distortions brings Acid V to life. Again in this area the Phoscion2 annoys with unpleasant harshness. Bravo Arturia

Thanks Vortifex. Somone mentioned, that Phoscion is not as good as Acid V ("thin" sounding and so on, whatever that means), how do you compare the two?

I have Phoscyon 2 and tried the Acid V demo Acid V. I have a Behringer TD-3, and the square from Acid V and the TD-3 are a closer match. Phoscyon 2 square wave isn't really a square and sounds a bit different.

The TD-3 and Phoscyon 2 both sounds "thinner" than Acid V, and comparing the spectrum the Acid has a boosted bass compared to both Phoscyon and the TD-3.

I don't really like the boosted bass though, but I would go for the Acid V anyways since its easier to match it up to the hardware sound.

Audiorealism did a comparison video on Twitter between a Roland TB303 and Acid V, I liked the Roland more.

Speaking of Audiorealism, can Acid V play regular MIDI notes sent to it like any other normal synth, or does it only play internal patterns that are triggered by a MIDI event? As far as I can tell, that seems to be how ABL works, which makes it even more annoying than it needs to be.

I think both can do that: in Acid V you can simply turn off the sequencer and feed the notes from the MIDI in; in ABL you need to set the MIDI mode to NOTE, otherwise the incoming notes are indeed used for pattern triggering.

This way you can actually "play" the bassline same as with any other synth plugin - in ABL there's a velocity treshold that triggers the accents, in Acid V it's probably the same.
