There is indeed a windows search index. It may not have finished it's first run. Usually just leaving the machine on for a while fixes it. You can switch it off for specific folders. Theres also a search and index troubleshooter in the windows settings.

Try Win1x_simplifier + win10_debloater + Madbomb10 black viper service tweaks (see win1x_simplifier page for links)

This will turn off the bulk of unneeded processes and rule out a bunch of things.

Seeing as you already have Everything installed, you might want to try turning off the Windows indexing because Everything is a gazillion times better for search and doesn't take forever to index. Plus it actually finds things.

The system can sometimes slow down when Windows is trying to parse meta-data and creating preview thumbnails for media files. I don't know if it is fixed, but on older versions of Windows, once you reached a certain amount of media files/thumbnails (can't remember the exact details), it would slow down Windows to a crawl, constantly writing and rewriting the cache file. It was definitely an issue on Win 7, and since then, I just stopped letting Windows handle these things because it's not very good at it. You have a lot of wav files, it could be that Windows is trying to read all the meta-data (artist, track number, yadda yadda).

There are alternatives to the in-built Windows thumbnail generators for videos btw. They have the disadvantage that the process runs for a folder each time you open it, with the upside being you don't have to worry about hitting that ceiling, plus the thumbnails for videos tend to be a lot more insightful and helpful than the standard Windows ones. The more files in the folder, the longer the process will take when opening a folder.

The answer is rather a quick fix.

Right click folder, customize, and select general item and include all subfolders.

It did the trick like a charm - not sure how, why, I'm just happy I can continue organizing my laptop with sanity.

If that got rid of the columns like #, Title, Contributing artists etc. and replaced it with the more standard Name, Size, Modified at etc. it's almost definitely the aforementioned meta-data that is to blame.

Mainly, date modified and size covers my needs, sometime Key as well

And there are other problems, even though a lot of mac users pretend there are none, there are always problems with computers in my experience.
Win11 explorer seems to me it is almost as slow as osx finder... but thats on a pentium N4200 cpu.

turn off windows defender realtime scan, malware protection. use the github defender remover, use the n function in the cmd window to safely turn off; and then probably try the free kaspersky cloud. it recently found a data miner on my machine that malware bytes had not found. your system will speed up by about 10 - 15%. there is chrome and edge kaspersky plugins if you want browse and download safely also. They work fine.

If you're using hdd's, switch to ssd's. Timetec are currently cheap at amazon. 100 cad for a 2tb m.2 / sata ssd. However, worth getting a good bifurcation card rather than using sata. sata slows things down the moment it's employed. I hear good things about timetec.

Search your registry for "vst" and check them paths.

Privazer can help to get rid of registry errors. I don't trust ccleaner anymore. Often there is errors. never had any with privazer.

Windows Freezes 20 seconds to scan folder content until it's free to "function"
