An idiot on Set Theory:

Exactly. I'm more likely to believe in the talents of an engineer who is pale, spotty, spindly arms that look like they'd snap in a strong breeze and squints in bright sunlight. Nerds don't gym, neither do technowizards. Nerds can be engineers, gymbunnies can't. Gymbunnies are the ones out front dancing to the music screaming "look at me, look at me" while the nerds are hiding behind keyboards in the dark making the music. Simple fact of life...everyone knows that.zerocrossing wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2023 9:59 pmYes. He's wearing a uniform that clearly says, "I'm hip and can bench a lot! You should listen to me! I'm an alpha!" not, "I spend a lot of time in a dim room tweaking knobs and carefully crafting a mix."![]()

The paradoxical effect of a clikbaity thumbnail. The dude is actually a relatively legit mixing and mastering engineer.

In that case he needs to grow a full head of hair and lose some beef to convince anyone. In the same way that rocket scientists should have pointy heads and wear spectacles, engineers should never look good in lycra.

if you do a lot of live sound, there can be a lot of heavy lifting on a tour.kritikon wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2023 12:24 pm In that case he needs to grow a full head of hair and lose some beef to convince anyone. A legitimate mixing and mastering engineer would be too busy with work to make clickbait videos.tehlord wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2023 11:06 am The paradoxical effect of a clikbaity thumbnail. The dude is actually a relatively legit mixing and mastering engineer.

that's just part of the game these days.
the fact most of us look like shit and have been dragged through hedges, shouldn't mean those who can be arsed looking after themselves a bit, can't also be good at something.
if anything, his physique shows a level of commitment to something.
now ill be honest, i didn't watch, but not because he looks a certain way, but because "i do not care, it doesn't matter".
a few years ago, it mattered a lot, analog modelling was shite. now, it isn't, and software can sound as good, if different.
some wars don't need rewaging.

Yeah, no one is going to take the Beatles seriously with that long shaggy hair.
And Deadmau5, get out of here with that stupid thing on your head!

At least my complaint is not about anyone's body or haircut but the style of presenting.
Youtube turned into a shopping channel since the influencers discovered that they can make a living with (cheap) vids.
Still, there are gems and top-notch channels, no question. But they are more and more difficult to find, because of the friggin' algos.

There's no use trying to be sensible about it. There indeed are some decent channels, but I'd rather they don't look like twats. Click or not to click - it's not a valid question if their photo cover is ugly...
