It is not true that Live is "built on" Qt Framework.
You can even delete the Qt files and folder from Live's install folder and Live will still open and work just fine.
AFAIK, Qt Framework is used for drawing Push 2/3's display.

What a load of crap… it takes about 10 seconds on my computericosa wrote: Thu Aug 31, 2023 1:13 pm Agreed. Scanning is horribly slow. Seems like some low hanging fruit in terms of qol updates.

Then you probably have a very fast computer and/or not many plugins installed. Not everyone is in the same position.Atlatnesiti wrote: Thu Aug 31, 2023 1:48 pmWhat a load of crap… it takes about 10 seconds on my computericosa wrote: Thu Aug 31, 2023 1:13 pm Agreed. I guess I shouldn't say horribly but it can be a slog if you have a lot of plugins installed and running an older non-ssd machine. It seems to depend on the plugins as well as outlined above.

No, your assumptions are wrong. I have an NVME Samsung 990 Pro - it almost can't be better than this. Yes, I have 200 plugins and when I install a new one it takes around a minute and 30 seconds for Live to "detect" new plugins and to register and place it inside the browser.icosa wrote: Thu Aug 31, 2023 3:52 pm I guess I shouldn't say horribly but it can be a slog if you have a lot of plugins installed and running an older non-ssd machine. This whole time if I go to Live preferences I can see a spinning circle saying my plugin folder is being scanned.
Reason 12 - install new vst3 plugin, run Reason 12 - 2 seconds - done
Reaper - 1 second - done
Cubase - less than 5 seconds - done
Clearly, it's something within Live. I don't know what but it is. It started around the introduction of Live 11. 90 seconds is way too much in my opinion and it's not about the speed of the HDD it is clearly something different.

Do you have any Blue Cat plugins installed by any chance ... If so the problem definitely seems to be related to the number of files in the VST directories (not just the .dll/.vst files) - viewtopic.php?p=8711200#p8711200

Besides the slow plugin scanning time the latest Version 11.3.10 take long time to load, and I'm unable to drag midi files to Toontrack EZkeys bandmate that works fine on Cubase 12.

Yes I believe this is the core issue. I read a post somewhere else too where a user could verify that Live scans every single file in the directories you specify and also follows any links it finds there and scans that as well. So all the presets, all the graphics files, all the samples etc. Just everything, even if they're stored elsewhere and only linked.mcbpete wrote: Tue Sep 05, 2023 2:33 pm Do you have any Blue Cat plugins installed by any chance ... Other DAWs handle this much better obviously, and depending on what plug-ins you have, the number of files that encompasses will be wildly different, hence the difference in scan times.
That's the only plausible explanation I've found so far. Even then though, twenty minutes is pretty ridiculous.

Live scanned it (the VST3 version) for round about 3 minutes.
Imho it can't be the BC plugins causing this behavior.

I am on Windows. Maybe that is the reason. Now when I (and you) mentioned it, I talked with M4L developers (who are quite experienced) such as developers from Fors (Opal) and EncoderAudio and they both told me something along the lines of M4L being notoriously slower and laggy on Windows than on Mac. Now I understand that M4L has nothing with VST but what you posted got me curious, perhaps Live on Mac is somehow more optimized.
I am obviously talking out of my mind, observing this situation, and not speaking about factual things because I am not a developer and can't claim.

Nope, no here, no BC plugins. Mostly NI, U-he, UA, Kush, Relab, etc. All these plugins take seconds to be detected in other DAWs, on my own machine, yet in Live it takes almost two minutes. I have seen similar reports in other forums so I don't think I am isolated in specific cases with specific issues. But I may be wrong of course.mcbpete wrote: Tue Sep 05, 2023 2:33 pm Do you have any Blue Cat plugins installed by any chance ... i think i have already replied in this thread, i am on windows 10, but scanning of plugins (i don't how many i have, but for instance MCompleteBundle, when there is an update, 113 + 113 (no more; several have more versions), i guess 300-400 plugins total? or more?/),
i repeat scanning of plugins isn't slower or faster than my other DAWs, in fact Reaper seems to be slowest one, sometimes, depends on the plugins. and indeed sometimes Live 11 (Suite), has also plugins that scan slower.
but overall, no problem, as fast as Bitwig, Cubase is mostly the fastest. but the differences are to close to call..
so strange that many (or many?) have this problem regardless the system.
on my previous desktop it was also normal, and i believe at that time, Live scanned when starting up, the flash screen.
now it scans after launched. my system specs; 5900x is the main factor, nvme drive yes.
some plugins do take more time than others, perhaps Reaper feels slower, because it scans on startup, for the launch. you can see that some plugins take time; mostly; the load in a way a plugin, so if it is plugin that takes time... well... (Arturia goes fast...).
