Didn’t know that Pro Tools is still relevant in music production

Your admission of ignorance is noted.
An idiot on Set Theory:

Big music/movie studios and big names in the industry still use Pro Tools.

And that won't change in the near future. So yeah, it is still very relevant.

Part of me thinks this is funny considering that my introduction to Ableton Live was when Avid would bundle the lite version with their interface or maybe it was their ignition pack.

Anyone else surprised that Avid Protools actually beat Presonus Studio One to the party?

It's 2023, electronic music is kind of important, a little more than guitars and rock at the moment.

For me, electronic music isn't primarily about clip launching.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Presonus would implement it in Studio One soon. Maybe with Studio One 7.

you might want to look how many metal albums are released weekly.
while it may not be in the mainstream, very little of it, ever was. but it was and is a huge market.

not that you can't use any host for any genre, being the only one aimed at guitarists, is going to be a better seller, than being one of an ever increasing amount of tools aimed at "electronic music" whatever you mean by that?

Yeah, electronic music people often seem to be a bit insulated from what else is going on. Dance stuff has been going for 30+ years, so it's not new, and in all that time other music styles have still been going strong. Always surprises me how big the market is for things like country/western etc. And as chk071 mentioned - clips are not universal. TBH I'm not even entirely sure what Ableton clips are all about, as I've never used it. I've been doing entirely electronic stuff for 34yrs now and I've not launched a single clip (whatever that is) yet I fried my brains on ecstacy in doof-doof raves as a kid. As ever, one can make repetitive music in many ways...eg pop is extremely repetitive but probably doesn't have Ableton as prime DAW tool. Everyone has their own tool (oo-er missus).

Watching videos from Mixing With The Masters, and there seems to be many major pop hits produced in Ableton Live.

There’s nothing genre exclusive about clip based launchers, but people definitely have a way of insulating themselves and nothing wrong with that (IMO).

I love recording modular nonsense into different clips. Sometimes a single clip will be very long, but I have a nice workflow for looping sections for different ideas to explore, while building out other track ideas.

I do not understand why clip launching is always associated with 3rd party ready made loops and seen as a bad thing . You can do totally original compositions with it using your own audio recordings and midi performances. It is just another way of composing. It is also super fast to try and combine different ideas in a non linear way. I do not know what is wrong with it.

i hope i didnt imply there was anything wrong with it :)

i have no issue with anyone using whatever they wish, be it premade audio loops, or self recorded live instruments, its all music to me :)
