Could you live with one DAW and one developer’s bundle?

I have a backup rig in case my main Mac goes down, and it has an older version of Logic X and Waves v9 and that’s it. That combo would be all I need, but I like new toys.

I've only ever used Cubase, but as far as what's plugged in I'm sure I couldn't do that.
heavy reliance on Sonic Couture for Kontakt for starters, _all_ of which is irreplacable obviously (the only synths I have installed/will use, ever are NI, then Replika XT appears in everything I've made since its release); VSL for many, many reasons, for instance MIR 3D is essential now on top of the libraries and the control of their players; and I'm leaning on certain SINE libraries which are also unique (bought another last night!), all means a hard no to that kind of austerity program.

For me no... Need separate FX and synths...
Bitwig or Cubase, ok fine only need one DAW
UAD fx are so integral to my mixing workflow and sound
NI synths, or uhe synths would be workable
Arturia probably also fine, d16 or UAD could work too, though in a more limited sound palette way

Once I settled on a DAW, that's all I ever use. Why hassle with another one? But yeah as for plugins, no one company does everything, let alone everything the best.chk071 wrote: Tue Aug 22, 2023 9:28 pm Nope.
Although DAW + NI Komplete surely comes close. I wouldn't want to pass on other developers' stuff though.

For me it would be Ableton Live and probably Arturia because I couldn't live without Analog Lab + Pigments and they have plenty of good effects too. But I'd hate the idea of being limited to the plugins from one single vendor.
That's why I could never be one of those people who use an "all-plugins-from-this-vendor" subscribtion, like UAD Spark or Slate Digital All Access Pass or Waves Creative Access.

I could definitely "live" with just Cubase and Arturia, especially if I'm "allowed" to have both Arturia's effects and instruments. That would cover like 95% of what I need.
Still there are a few plugins from other developers that I also use regularly.

Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Reaper and WAVES Horizon. More than enough.
My by far most used devs are Waves and AIR for many years.
Arturia? Do they have guitar amp sims or some drum VSTi or
some decent analyzing tool and limiter for mastering?
But would be nice to have 3 VSTi in addition, maybe Avenger, Xpand2 and? (Toontrack or XLN drums or...)
So Reaper, Waves and AIR (+Avenger) only would be pretty fine, wouldn't change that much anyway.
I am glad I am not addicted to daws, I know people who have 5 or more daws who are still tempted to buy more.

If you're going by a bundle with an ampsim, a virtual drummer VSTi, analyzing tools and a limiter for mastering, you almost have to choose IK Multimedia Total Studio 4 Max.DCrown wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 4:36 am Reaper and WAVES Horizon. More than enough.

Why are you picking Waves if it matters to you that Arturia doesn't have a drum VSTi? Waves doesn't have a drum VSTi either. And Waves has some plugin they market as an ampsim, but it's no ampsim. TONEX is am ampsim.

Got to agree with this, for all IK's shortcomings, (SampleTank is a joke from 2002), Amplitube and Tonex when you go all in is by far the best virtual guitar kit out there.jamcat wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 5:13 amIf you're going by a bundle with an ampsim, a virtual drummer VSTi, analyzing tools and a limiter for mastering, you almost have to choose IK Multimedia Total Studio 4 Max.DCrown wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 4:36 am Reaper and WAVES Horizon. The Waves GTR amps and FX are not my first choice (I prefer Helix and two Neural DSP plugins) , but would be good enough and I don't use amp sims for guitar only, also for vocals, electric piano etc
Waves also have some very good electric pianos. Indeed Waves has no drums, but Avenger has more than enough with the option to import samples.
WLM Plus is my analyzing tool I like and I do use and Waves have L1, L2 or L3. I have Arturia, I have IK Multimedia, but rarely use it, so if I had Waves and Reaper only, it would be nice to have Avenger, too, for drums and more.
But without Avenger I still wouldn't be lost, Reaper has a sampler that I could use for drums.
I refered to Arturia, because it was mentioned quite a lot of times and for me it would be a nightmare to have Arturia only, Pigments and all other emus I just don't like, I would miss some reverbs that Waves have and many more things.
Waves complete bundle has also some synths included I prefer over Arturia and IKM.
But to each their own.

Arturia's FX plugins are generally more specialized/unique rather than general purpose. That's why for me they're a good complement to the stock DAW plugins. You get lots of emulations of vintage compressors, reverbs etc. as well as some very capable more modern workhorses like BusForce, Intensity/Eternity etc.DCrown wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 4:36 am Arturia? Cubase already contains quite a few plugins, including amp sims, analyzers and mastering tools so I don't really see the need for a big bundle of general purpose mixing plugins like Waves for example. Maybe the story is different with other DAWs that don't come bundled with very many plugins. https://steinberg.help/cubase_pro_plugi ... nce_en.pdf
It also includes Groove Agent SE which is a very capable drum machine.
