Hey Guys!

I have always wanted to do a DOOM 2016/Eternal-esque track for the OSC and with this synth it seemed feasible.

So here is my tribute to/attempt at this style of music.
I hope you enjoy it!

PS: At first I really wanted to use only the InfernalSynth FX for all the FX, but ran out of time sadly. But I'm glad that I could submit something!

DAW: Reaper
Synth: InfernalSynth (29 Instances), InfernalSynth FX (6 Instances)
FX: OrilRiver, GClip, OTT, ReaEQ, ReaComp, ReaGate, LoudMax
Mastering Chain: GClip, TDR Nova, Kotelnikov, Loudmax
Metering: SPAN, YLM2

Cheers,

Hi everyone,

Here is my entry:

https://soundcloud.com/impedancemusic/i ... ernalsynth

So... I probably made my most ridiculous entry yet. One thing led to another, but let's start from the beginning:

In OSC#152, I made an Amiga style track with Whispair, and I've been wanting to do the same thing for the Commodore 64 for a while now. That's how it all started. While making the track stupid pictures and later a really dumb story came to my mind. Normally I do the smart thing and keep them to myself. But since I finished my track four days before the deadline and I had a lot of time this month, I did the right thing and used that extra time to polish up my track and do some great sound desi - I've decided to animate the whole thing.
But that's not a problem for someone with as much experience in 2D animation like me: I've watched a ten-minute YouTube tutorial on the subject about six years ago. And my drawing style can be described as preschool. Perfect.

So I went from "I've got a lot of time" to "who needs sleep." I still had to make a lot of compromises since I ran out of time. But I finished it - something I've wanted to do for six years (or even longer): try to do 2D Animation.

The video has a slightly different sound than the soundcloud upload: I completely intentionally exported it at reduced quality to match the poor quality of the animation and the cheap editing style*. So welcome in my mind: full of unnecessary stupid thoughts:

*I've made an oopsie and can't figure out there.

One of my favorites!

Tricky synth to wrap my head around. Good thing there's a manual. Even still...

The unique nature of this workflow lends itself to unique results! :hyper: :tu: :D

sorry for being late ... some troubles with uploading ... I'm so close to my upload limit sc is getting so slow and it some how needed too much time ... I gave up a few times and then decided to clean some tracks. Anyway. I can understand if I'm outside the rulez ... next synth is nice as well ... seem like it has pretty much potential for noizzzze.

@everyone thanks for some great music and feedback/suggestions/criticism.
@kvr thanks for giving me the opportunity to participate and gain some exposure.

I hope you enjoyed working with infernal. Got some great feedback from this OSC, probably good to keep me busy for years. Moved Mac support to the top of the list, other than that, it's just "whatever i feel like". It's still a hobby project after all ;)

Please feel free to continue dropping feedback of any kind at github/kvr/my personal mail!

Your synth has a lot of character and inspired me to make something that is probably a tribute to its name - Infernal

If only you could improve the routing system and make it easier to insert and reorganize existing routing, I will probably use this synth again for personal use as well.

Even though I really enjoyed the sonic capabilities of this synth, the routing was very tedious for me. Especially when the FX/routings had to be reordered or something needed to be inserted in the chain, since swapping the FX order doesn't alter the routing itself. But I eventually did get faster by simply clicking around faster.

I can understand that a simpler routing system may be very hard to implement (or not).

Kudos to you and your hobby project, very impressive!

The routing by itself is the most complicated part of the synth both on the ui and the dsp side (programming-wise, not math-wise, thats definately the filters and the reverb. Thats why i stole them, see credits on github :) )

I know some synths get this much more user friendly by way of drag/drop etc but thats not something im willing to do (too much ui work). However here's some things i think would be helpful:

* automatically update routing on copy/swap module
* "insert" routing option e.g. when you have osc->fx1, fx1->voice.out allow to insert an empty slot between the 2 (same for cv) by context menu
* "move up/down" a single route in the matrix by context menu
* ... anything else that is not ui-heavy? ;)

Is Peter H part of the official entries or not? He's not on the SC playlist or voting website currently. We need some clarity on that one.
