I think in the gran scheme of things during the time period between Gtr Rig Pro 6 and 7 there have been wayyyyy too many changes that NI didn’t account for. Covid, issues with developers, being bought out again by another company, fusing another company’s products with your main seller (Komplete) and that’s not to mention what was actually happening to all the people with NI personally.

Did they promise new things for the then current model? Yes.
Has their business been smooth sailing? No

We all know the problems that mergers cause internally in companies. I guess Im just content that they are atleast making things better and still updating versus letting it go like their previous products.
And this is when I think it’s good to point out BS updates and broken promises. They’re under the umbrella of venture capitalism. Customers rarely win out (if ever) from these types of deals.

I hope for others that I’m wrong.

Unless I see something that suggests otherwise, I don’t care to put my money towards them coasting on NI’s shaky reputation.

This was so easy to see happening. Not surprised at all that we now suddenly have a GRig7 instead of keeping the promises for GRig6. I predicted this already back then and so I voted with my wallet. Last product I bought from NI was Massive X (where they did sort of half-keep the promises made).

The company just lost touch with the audience in my opinion. It's the natural cycle of life, companies grow old and stale and will slowly die unless rejuvenated. Venture capital is more like chemo therapy at this point.

EDIT: Having listened to some audio demos of the new amps, I do really like the sound of them. I always did like the NI ICM amps, no matter how accurate or not they are. There's just something pleasing to the tonality of them.

I haven't given NI a penny in 10 years. Looks like it will be a bit longer. I really like GR, it'd be nice to see it get an update someday...

Saukar30 wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 4:40 pm I'm confused by the comments here. Aren't there 4 new ICM Amps included in v7? Why are you guys saying there are no new amps?
With GR6 N.I. introduced their new ICM amp modelling technology (it does sound quite good), but there were only 2 or 3 amps included with it at the time. They said they would be releasing free updates with new ICM amps to GR6 owners. That was 3 years ago, and we have had 2 ICM amps added in that time, I doubt I would have upgraded to GR6 had I know this at the time.

I get that there have been problems with covid and Ukraine war, but I don't think it's an excuse to short change existing customers. It's a loss of trust for me.
Two amps and a fuzz pedal. Some companies charge you as much as $100 for a single model, and you got 3 for free. I’m unclear on why people feel that they are entitled to free models forever.
U hiding under a rock? It was NI that stated to their customers that they would be providing additional models for GR6 and never did
Yeah, I was hiding under an AxeFX shaped rock, but I still saw that they included 5 ICM models with version 6. Four amps and a fuzz box. They did provide additional models. Did you expect they'd just be providing free models forever for nothing? As it is, the number of options in v6 is already a lot.

Not happy? Move on, or don't upgrade. I'm not going to, until maybe there's a sale. I'm pretty sure there's nothing remotely as flexible as Guitar Rig, though, except maybe MGuitarArchitect, which sounds like crap to me.
Ohhh axe fx. You're so cool bro

I feel like a broken record pointing this out. Komplete is a great deal, especially if you can skip a few upgrades here and there. NI make some mistakes, but Reaktor, Kontakt, Guitar Rig etc. are all top notch. If you buy their products separately and/or upgrade outside of Komplete you're wasting your money. if you expect them to pay attention to, or finish off a product that needs polishing (Maschine, Komplete Control etc.), you will be disappointed when it becomes deprecated instead. Look up Komplete Care, their "subscription" service for upgrades that lasted one year, from 18 years ago. These aren't new problems for this company based on their new owners etc.

Never buy NI (or pretty much any software ever) based on the promise of software improvements in the future, buy it for what it gives you right now.
