Cubase 12 was released March 2, 2022. That's a year and a half ago. It seems Steinberg has broken from their half version annual cadence, and it makes me wonder if anyone here knows when the next release is scheduled?

Those that know can't say...:-)

However apparently one of SB's product managers has said publicly they will not do the 0.5 updates again..

Those that know might have already said and I just missed it though, like that info in your link. :hihi: Thanks.

So no half version updates anymore and he says when the next release 'eventually comes', which doesn't seem to have a lot of vigor in their release pace.

That's a curious change. It probably also means updates are going to cost more too when they do come along.

Version 12 was the big update which changed the copy protection scheme. So, it's understandable that that one took them more time.

Maybe they changed their release cycle indeed. Personally, I thought 1 version, or a paid .5 upgrade a year was too quick anyway. If you see it realistically, putting out new versions so frequently has the sole purpose of selling a new product. I get it, people obviously want it that way (otherwise they wouldn't buy every year), but, I think a new version every 3 years or so is plenty. I already have my issues with Studio One's 2 year reclease cycle, especially as you pay 150 € regularly for the upgrade. It's just buy, buy, buy and buy. Nothing really substantial in these updates.

Once every 30 or 40 years would be plenty for me.

Cubase 13 is finally here. If you'd like to take the new version for a test spin, you'll have to wait a little longer: the free Cubase 13 version will be released soon.

I wonder what hey mean by that is it aFree upgrade fom V12 or a free version that they never have had before?

Just a feeling on how all this is presented... but it's probably just some paranoia...

I forgot that they did something like this before 12 was released.

Maybe they're back now on October / November releases, only every 2 years rather than 1, skipping the 0.5 versions.

I think the big problem with 13 will be dropped VST2 support. Could well break a lot of old project compatibility, apart from anything else.

Company reps said not long ago that they won't go subscription in the foreseeable future. And, I don't see anything in that announcement indicating subscription either. On the German website it says "Anmelden", which means sign up. They probably simply mean their newsletter.
