I like to produce my favorite genre because i hate it. It makes me so miserable and depressed. Everytime i produce my favorite genre i shit like a constipated camel and make myself eat it back up.
Ask not what your DAW can do for you, but what you can do with your DAW

How about you get the ball rolling and tell us yours? You might get more and better responses that way. That said, surely everyone is just going to pick the genre of music in which they are most interested and/or like most. I can't imagine producing any genre I didn't like. e.g. Nothing on Dog's green Earth would make me produce any dance genre or Country & Western.

Over the years I have had to produce most genres.
At one point I had to do a lot of metal, so I learned that.
Another point, funk, soul and R&B, so I learned that.
Classical, so I learned that.
Electronic, so I leaned that.
Rock and alternative, so I learned that.
Having the variety to learn from, is what I enjoyed......
Now my favorite is my own music.

To me that would feel like selling my soul. I don't have any trouble doing it with my graphics work but music is too important to me to whore myself out like that. The day music starts to feel like a job, I'll give it away.

Thats an interesting view.....
I never thought of Rick Rubin as a ho.
Or Quincy Jones, Sir George Martin, Brian Eno, Nile Rodgers, Daniel Lanois, etc..
I would consider what they do as .....skill

I never thought much about any of those guys at all. I doubt I own any music produced by any of them. That's kind of my point - just because it's music, doesn't mean I have even the slightest interest in it.

no favs, it's all fun. i like trying stuff i've never made before. lessons abound. some of the most fun i've ever had with music has been just being goofy, not taking shit so seriously or trying to prove anything. oddly those tracks are generally the most well-received ...

OK, I'll give a serious answer...
I don't really follow genres, so I won't try to pigeonhole it, but my favorite styles to produce are broadly categorized as hardware synth-based "electronica" with female vocals, especially in a downtempo and darker style. I like producing this style because I love using my hardware synths and drum machines, I prefer melodic styles, and I really like working with my vocalist friends. Also, I prefer music with vocals, but I don't like my own voice and can't write lyrics to save my life, so that necessitates collaborating with people whose voices I do like and who can write lyrics.
I do occasionally like to produce some straightforward guitar-based pop/rock as well, but don't do it very often. I was recently playing in a very casual band with some coworkers and friends, but it fizzled out as a couple of members moved away. We recorded some rough demos in my studio and it was pretty cool and fun to record my bass playing again (I was a session player decades ago) and record guitars and layer vocals. Drums were a huge PITA though, since my little office/studio couldn't fit our drummer's kit and we never got around to doing a mobile session at his place, so we just faked it with SSD and SD.
