As long as you post that disclaimer you can make any kind of statement...
"2023 is the coldest summer ever - YMMV"
"The moon is bigger that the sun - YMMV"
"The earth is pretty much flat - YMMV"

IR's are a very personal thing. I think the only two companies I've bought IRs from that are consistently good are Ownhammer and York Audio. And even then they're not all home runs for me and don't always work where I expect them to.

Exactly - so why would you post something like "Basically amps only with 3rd party IR's otherwise forget it, still sounds like shit.", even if you add an "IMO" afterwards?
Btw: at least some of the new default cabinets of GR7 come from Ownhammer indeed, so there's that...

And by the way: it's basically always the same thing, not at all just for guitar - one mic works marvellously well for one song and then you record (say) vox for another one with it where you'd think it should shine just as well but all of a sudden it sounds like farts in a potato sack to you... it's always a struggle to balance things spectrally - has not really much to do with 3rd party stuff and what not...
with a real amp you'd move the mic a bit and/or try another one to fix it.

Exactly. My issue with Ownhammer (which I chose over Yorke only because I liked the sound of their demos more), but I think all of them do this, is that they do that legal TV show stunt where they dump a truckload of discovery on the opponent, and now you have to spend days going though hundreds of different mic, and mic placements, combos, etc.jens wrote: Sun Sep 10, 2023 3:03 pm And by the way: it's basically always the same thing, not at all just for guitar - one mic works marvellously well for one song and then you record (say) vox for another one with it where you'd think it should shine just as well but all of a sudden it sounds like farts in a potato sack to you... it's always a struggle to balance things spectrally - has not really much to do with 3rd party stuff and what not...

So what I do is just use their “best of” folder and even whittle that down to a bunch that sound good to me after various amp types. Not all IRs work with all amps, so what sounds great on an AC15 may sound horrible on a Triple Rectifier. Sometimes things are surprising. I tried a Mesa slant back cab on a cranked and boosted Fender Deluxe and I got a great sound. Of course, once you get a sound you like, it almost always needs some EQ once it’s in the mix, but this isn’t any different than dealing with a real amp/cab recording. I can’t remember ever using a raw recording and thinking, “yup, nailed it, nothing more to do there.”

I have no position on this... just pointing out that the language quoted above does not indicate to me that users should expect free models...Zipede wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 5:24 pmMaybe because 2 amps and a fuzz box is a bit light considering the advertising they used at release of GR6 3 years ago.zerocrossing wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 5:11 pmTwo amps and a fuzz pedal. Some companies charge you as much as $100 for a single model, and you got 3 for free. I’m unclear on why people feel that they are entitled to free models forever.Zipede wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 5:04 pmWith GR6 N.I. introduced their new ICM amp modelling technology (it does sound quite good), but there were only 2 or 3 amps included with it at the time. They said they would be releasing free updates with new ICM amps to GR6 owners. That was 3 years ago, and we have had 2 ICM amps added in that time, I doubt I would have upgraded to GR6 had I know this at the time.Saukar30 wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 4:40 pm I'm confused by the comments here. Aren't there 4 new ICM Amps included in v7? Why are you guys saying there are no new amps?
I get that there have been problems with covid and Ukraine war, but I don't think it's an excuse to short change existing customers. It's a loss of trust for me.
"The future
GUITAR RIG 6 PRO is out now with three brand new amps that have been modeled using ICM, but rather than that being the conclusion of the project, it’s merely the beginning of a new run of high quality emulations.
“Since we don’t have to do all the calculating and tweaking ourselves, we can be measuring other amps and circuits while the neural network does its thing,” Fabian points out. “This means we can have so many more amps in the pipeline than we did before, which is the really exciting thing for users of GUITAR RIG 6 PRO.”"

Okay, that one is more specificDalle wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 9:03 pm For the record, here’s what a NI employee said in 2021:
Emphasis by me. They ended up releasing a total of one amp and one pedal.Hey everyone,
the promise still stands. And we would have wished to deliver earlier on it. So, apologies for the delay and radio silence. There are several reasons for the delay that have cumulated over time. For instance: Earlier this year it had been Covid lockdown regulations slowing down hardware measurements. Currently it is rather technical work needed for compatibility updates (e.g.Apple M1). The next release will be a compatibility release. The one after that will include new ICM components (amps & pedals). And that update will of course be free to all Guitar Rig 6 Pro users.
thank you for your patience

Is this the first update with new models since that date? If yes, that's pretty damning.pdxindy wrote: Sun Sep 10, 2023 4:10 pmOkay, that one is more specificDalle wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2023 9:03 pm For the record, here’s what a NI employee said in 2021:

But...seeing how much change has occurred at NI, it's understandable that the plan may have changed and the new leadership team changed directions. I might be annoyed if I ever used GR6.

I'm 8 days late to this party so bear with me.
A little background.
Basically a composer, of late I've been writing and recording a lot of guitar based songs. This is unusual for me as I'm a keyboard player going back to the 70s. Right now, I own Guitar Rig 5, Amplitube 5 with Tonex and Peavy Revalver, which is really cool the way you can dive into the circuitry of the amps and fiddle with the diodes and stuff.
I like GR 5 but feel it's limited. I don't have 6 so I don't really care if GR 7 doesn't give you much over GR 6. I am only concerned that GR 7 is a decent value at a $99 upgrade over GR 5. Watching a few videos, it appears to be a whole new beast over GR 5. Yes, no?
On another notes, I'm looking for what I think is an MXR overdrive emulation. Nothing I currently have seems to include it. Here is a song I did many years ago. Listen to the lead guitar. I can't seem to get this sound from anything I own. Am I just missing something? Hopefully, you guitar tone experts can tell me what I ran my guitar through and if there is an emulation somewhere.
Please forgive the bad recording. I had no idea what I was doing back then.

For $99 you can buy the FULL version of Scuffam S-Gear 3.1 which to me sounds many times better than GR7.
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Whilst I agree the algorithmic amps in S-Gear sound better than the algorithmic amps in GR7, when you include the ICM amps.. not at all... not even close...and I have both.
