Always a matter of taste.
Whilst I agree the algorithmic amps in S-Gear sound better than the algorithmic amps in GR7, when you include the ICM amps.. not at all... not even close...and I have both.

Definitely taste (I have Helix, Scuffam and GR6 and rank them in that order) but my point was $99 is way to much for the upgrade when you can buy S-Gear for $99...

And that $99 upgrade price is just holding space for when they have a 50% off sale.

NI and Arturia have this "limited-time" upgrade sale thing, which is just stupid. If you don't buy during this time, then it's not worth the upgrade fee.

Not to mention, NI should have included this in the K14 upgrade and as a thank you to those who upgraded to K14. It probably would've helped them net a bigger profit than charging $99 for an upgrade that eventually will be $49.

I have S-Gear 3.1, I had S-Gear since probably 1.2 or 1.5, can't remember.. I haven't actually used it in project for years (once Th-U with rig player came out, it went into plugin graveyard for me)... so if I had a choice of $99 for three more ICM or S-GEAR which I will never use.. well.

But yes to each their own.

Btw I am not saying that the 3+ICM are worth the $99, I am saying that for me, S-Gear is a bad analogy, had you said Tonex SE now.. well :)

Not really, I don't think this can be guessed from sound alone...

Any time I heard MXR and anything distortion related, I think MXR Distortion+.

This video covers several op-amp distortion pedals, including the Distortion+.

You could probably find a clone of that somewhere or in something like TONEX.

Amplitube's Diode Distortion includes a three variations of the Distortion+/OD 250 circuit. Clicking the diodes on the gui changes which diodes the model is using.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

Better than paying 99 EURO.

I tried the demo, new amps are OK but are only what were were promised would be included in the very limited GR6 (graphical update on release...new amps to follow...)...its likes someone did a few more amp models and NI stepped in and said, hey...we can charge 100 bucks for that! I think since buying HELIX I have had hundreds of new amps and pedals for free...guess I have just been spoilt.

What's with that simple view of the rack on the right, can you add fx in parallel now or is it just another picture of the rack?

Do you need to buy the hardware to use Helix? The vst looks pretty powerful but I get the feeling that it doesn't work without the hardware. Yes, no?

No, it’s a VST (helix native) but exactly the same DSP as the hardware so patches are transferable

It's another view on the rack. You always could load effects in parallel, in mid/side, in frequency crossover... GR has had these features forever.

I do think it's too much too, especially for Komplete owners, but it's pretty silly to compare it to Scuffam, which has far fewer models of everything, and not nearly the flexibility and feature set of Guitar Rig 7. That might suite your needs fine, but in that comparison I'd say it makes Guitar Rig 7 seem like the better deal if you want to stretch out and get experimental. By that I don't necessarily mean crazy sounds, either. Just doing simple things where you use the crossovers to only put chorus on the top end or something like that can be fairly normal sounding, but really make your guitar come alive.

I don't believe any Algo sim has anything better to offer than whats included in Overloud TH-U. Not Scuffham, not Neural. To get to the next level of realism you'll need ToneX profiles.
