Why are some FX plugins so big?

Some anti-piracy software adds vastly to memory footprint.

Hmmmm...I was very close to upgrading Ozone from elements to standard, $115 seems good enough deal to me. Does anyone know how big Ozone standard is? It would be similar, I assume. 1.87GB is big enough to dissuade me. My laptop's not big enough to squeeze too many plugins of that size in, I only have 250GB SSD. I already excluded that megapiano in Cubase because it was 9 GB (surprised me how huge all of the sample stuff in Cubase is)runagate wrote: Thu Sep 14, 2023 11:25 am I was curious so I checked what I have installed. RX 7 Elements for some reason = 182 MB
RX 10 Advanced = 1.87 GB

I very badly want to come over to your house with more storage and jam.
I can't answer the standard version question but if you have the "everything" bundle apparently it's over 15 GB

Half of those are sound libraries for the Iris synth tbf, so you'd only be using a single sample from them as opposed to the entire librarykritikon wrote: Thu Sep 14, 2023 9:44 pm Thanks for that info Runagate. Just those plugins alone would probably kill my modest laptop...![]()

Well, I have to thank you for inspiring me to check out neutron 4 advanced and thus stumble upon the fact that their loyalty offer from everything bundle to an on-sale bundle with neutron 4 advanced, ozone 11 advanced and guitar rig 7 (something I'd have never paid a cent for until the next komplete summer sale incidentally had it in there) was $50
N.I. may have lost it's way but if you buy stuff exclusively during crazy sales you can eventually get a tremendous amount of interesting things. Neutron has some sort of "analyze a vocal and impose it's character on some other vocal" thing in there I was in their livestream which I intend to use in ways they definitely did not intend it for which will for sure provide me with $50 worth of entertainment. I wish I was going from Elements to Standard so I could give you an intelligent comment on the difference but I long since got Advanced simply because I wanted RX advanced and, again, got it all for astonishingly little $

Yes you can get 250GB or even larger SD Cards. But some systems don't read things over 250GB for some reason. I use my SD Card as a data folder for all my software resources and samples. They're not too expensive either.

This, and sometimes the interface graphics. It varies. It's annoying.resynthesis wrote: Thu Sep 14, 2023 8:23 pm Some anti-piracy software adds vastly to memory footprint.

It's often the graphics that eat a lot of CPU and/or RAM. For example you close the plugin window and the CPU goes down dramatically. As for the RAM, instead of vector graphics, a lot of plugins use images, the size of which adds up.
