As a Chroma Polaris, Juno-106, and Andromeda owner, I’ll just say believe all the warnings you’ve heard. It’s not a matter of “if” things go wrong, it’s a matter of “when”.

yes, but i would assume (perhaps incorrectly?) that anyone looking to buy vintage gear, would know the possibility of failures?

none of them effect me though, in the sense that, if you want to spend several grand on an old synth, it doesn't make a difference in my day.

It does, though, but in your our, tangentially. It forms a market that developers move to get into and that defines the selection of things for sale.

Maybe my “thing” is Zebra, but instead of getting a v3, we get Diva, RePro, Diva filters in Zebra, etc. My thing in hardware is well appointed analogs (like the MFB Dominion 1, ATC-X, PolyBrute) and hybrids (Prophet 12, Nina) but developers like Behringer don’t see dollar signs in that and believe vintage clones are the way to go.

I’m just saying that I’d vintage fever fell out of fashion, we’d probably see more unique designs.

I found a Roland JD-800 in a pawn store at a good price but the keys were sticky. I didn't buy it and I'm glad because then I read that is an issue with these synths. What do you do? WD-40?

There are weights under the keys and the adhesive that keeps them attached melts. I think we use rubbing alcohol or ammonia to get it off. The keys feel pretty cheap when the weights are gone.

With some of the classic synthesizers, the oscillators were known to "drift" and the tuning would go out (pertinently if not serviced).

The Behringer Deepmind (and others) have a build in oscillator tuning feature to combat this problem.

The Deepmind is a bit different, as it’s not a temperature compensated or tuned VCO, but a DCO.
