Oh yes! A randomizer would be perfect. I just got Synth Anthology 4 a few days ago and created 12 patches so far. I'm enjoying it. It's way better than my previous Synth Anthology 2 I bought that I immediately sold after trying.

Interesting to see that the oldest predecessor of Synth Anthology 4, namely UltraFocus from USB (as UVI was called back then) also used two, albeit relatively simple, layers in 2005:
https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/ul ... -focus?amp
UltraFocus became Synths Anthology (yes, plural) which evolved into Synth Anthology 2, and then Synth Anthology 3, the latter two resembling each other to a high degree.
The current Synth Anthology 4 is indeed an entire rewrite, accurately labeled Tour de Force, yet still true to its humble origin.

I also have UVI Synth Legacy.

Is there a backstory behind that offering?

IIRC it was a special offering for Guitar Center’s 50th. I got it too. It was later incorporated into Synth Anthology 2. As such, it was considered a limited version of the then upcoming SA2. There’s a thread about it somewhere at kvr.tonedef71 wrote: Sun Sep 17, 2023 4:38 amThanks for sharing.Fleer wrote: Sat Sep 16, 2023 3:05 am UltraFocus became Synths Anthology (yes, plural) which evolved into Synth Anthology 2, and then Synth Anthology 3, the latter two resembling each other to a high degree.

Two for synth is already plently IMHO.
Still Augmented Orchestra is a two layer with two sub layers so..
You can do still layering in UVIWorkstation though

I wonder what made UVI bring back the two layers from UltraFocus, or why they left them out of Synths Anthology, and Synth Anthology 2 and 3. Anyway, Synth Anthology 4 is a wonderful upgrade. Only wish they would add the raw sub osc waveforms from SA3.

I’m actually beginning to see why this Synth Anthology 4 is so special. To me it’s not as much a synth anthology (like UVI’s Vintage Vault or even IK’s Syntronik) but a hybrid synth of its own, operated through the Proximity Explorer that works like an smart randomizer, offering me intelligent choices in line with my preferences of the moment. As such, Synth Anthology 4 is indeed a sonic explorer, taking me to more, but also less, similar sounds than the ones I come up with myself. Add to that the interesting insight of knowing which actual synthesizers, and methods of synthesis, lay behind the sounds I make, like, or stumble upon. An absolute software marvel.

You're probably good, because I believe it was last updated on the 11th.
Of course, another update could be imminent.
