Yeah, it is great, especially as a tape flanger. Too bad they didn't include a mix knob on it.

I know about the input/output link button. That's why I don't understand why they didn't do the same thing for their preamp plugins.
Me didnt even mention those, as I knew how sensitive you are about them.
jamcat wrote: Sun Sep 17, 2023 9:15 pm As it turns out, TUBE-STA is very sensitive to the source material. That's not surprising, since it is tube modeled. When I had tried it out, it was on an overdriven bass guitar going through a tube amp in TONEX. So this tube→tube chain was overloading TUBE-STA, causing it to get fuzzy and quiet.
Its sensitive yet also adaptive to source, yepp. :phones:

Never tried this and dont know much about the drum and such. :?

You could try KSHMR Chain on it.

Yeah, there are lots of different ways to do it. I just do an aux send to an FX channel with Melo-Fi for an individual track or buss. But something like KSHMR Chain or Studio One's built-in Splitter is needed to put it across the entire mix in the master buss if you want some '60s psychedelia.

A mix knob would have just made it super easy to do right in Melo-Fi.

I know what you mean sir. The funny part is they are excluding the Mix Knob, so people dont get Tape Flanging when using it. But its also no real Tape Flanging as one Signal would be Dry and only the other is Wet.

Do you mean that one signal is always at constant speed and the other is always time warped?

Really real tape flanging isn't possible with a digital buffer effect, since the buffer would need to be infinitely large (because you can slow the tape down to a speed approaching zero for an infinite amount of time.)

I've tried some experiments with automating a tape-style slowdown alternately on two copies of a rendered track, on one and then the other, back and forth like that. I wasn't ever able to get satisfactory results from that, and you can forget about your tempo track after that.

The closest to real analogue tape flanging I've gotten is with Mello-Fi. I use the Tape Stop function, set to 4 or 8 bars typically, and Tape Catch-up set to Fast-Forward. I engage the Tape Stop for around a half second or less, every several seconds. The slow catch up function has relatively the same effect as if you were to slow down the other reel to catch up, with the added bonus of not losing time.

The one advantage of having to use Mello-Fi on a separate send channel is you can also invert its phase for a more intense flanging effect.

Aside from this; the Dry - Signal would also need to be running through the Tape - Circuit and not just be totally dry. This could be done by using two Instances of Mello-Fi though, using the same, or similar settings for Tape Sound and then starting to modulate, warble one of them. Could work out pretty cool actually.
