Noticed that NI is cranking out the Kontakt 7.6.x updates fast and furious to coincide with the release of the new Mark III series of hardware coming soon.

Today (in Native Access 2) I see updates for Electric Mint, Electric Sunburst Deluxe, Hypha and Kontakt Factory Library 2

Now - if you are already on K7.x.x and are moving forward - it's all good.

However, if you have NOT yet moved to K7 and are still on K6 (for many valid reasons) - be aware that a few of these listed above (and I am sure more to come) were originally designed (and first offered) to run against Kontakt 6.

If you allow Native Access to update items like Mint and Electric Sunburst - you will be greeted by a message at startup "Your version of Kontakt is too old to load this file".

Which of course - will make you VERY cranky and could really impact some ongoing projects etc.

Now - to be fair to NI - they do clearly state in the Release Notes for each of these new updates that the minimum version of Kontakt required to use these libraries (should you proceed) will be 7.6.x - but then again - who reads release notes?

A few folks on the NI forums have already been burned by this and I am not sure if NI can/will offer a way forward - as this does seem a bit heavy handed. But I can also see why they are doing it.

I also attempted to help one user on the NI forums - hoping that maybe an uninstall/reinstall of Electric Mint - might return him to a version that could be loaded on Kontakt 6 - but to no avail.

It now seems that the "K7.6.x" version is installed by default and if you are on K6 - you are SOL in in using that library.

Finally - there were just three updates in NA2 yesterday - now there are 5 (for me). This is happening quite fast, and NI has not issued any communications on this that I have seen.

Tread carefully peeps.

Cheers

VP
