"No pitching effects" include things like pitch shifters, frequency shifters, wow/flutter, or shimmer reverbs, etc
unless they are in the synth vst itself (or related fx included with the synth).

This month there's a bunch of stuff that you can do in the synth that's not allowed outside.

But I didn't care because it didn't occur to me that you would want to design a kick :-). I learned a lot from this forum. If you like 2RuleSynth, I will go further and make the necessary corrections. Thanks a lot.
Note : As far as I understand you want more precision im loer end of the filter? Is'nt it?

I did get the notification email about this new version and there was a link to give feedback and half the posts were suggesting similar to this. I am going to hold off downloading and updating it in case it has become infected.
Hello I am the developper of 2RuleSynth. I don't know why it has this virus alert. I created the installer of the pluging using the Inno Setup Compiler regarding to the suggestion of Juce Framework. So I trust to them.
But in the gumroad site I uploaded a windows vst3 format of 2RuleSynth (without an installer exe) .
You can download "2RuleSynthV-3-2_for_windows.vst3" and "Foctory.json" files.

please fix the filter frequencies so they don't jump by 200hz. a lot of control is needed down near the lower frequencies.
the ear doesn't hear frequencies the same. see how SPAN isn't linear?

Its not just kicks but makes basses really hard to do too.

Correct: so for further clarity (@hockinsk3), there should be no pitch effects at the post-processed "audio" level; but if you're doing things like pitch-bend or other pitch effects "inside" the synth (before audio is produced), that's totally fine. For example: if you wanted to do a wow/flutter, you might automate/modulate the pitch of an oscillator, and/or use the pitch wheel.

Incidentally, this synth does have a pitch shifter as one of its available effects, for your consideration - but obviously not all synths will be like this. Other internal effects that would otherwise be forbidden include a chorus, phaser, and flanger: take advantage of those as well.

This is my first shot at one of these,
https://soundcloud.com/brendan-langevin ... -no-effect this is my version for the challenge with just the 3 instances of the 2RuleSynth. Let me know if there is anything I'm missing or need to change.
[I've removed the other version]

I used 3 instances of the 2RuleSynth, in Ableton with the IZotope Neoverb and Ozone 10 elements for some effects and mastering

iZotope Neoverb and Ozone 10 Elements are both paid plugins that aren't stock, and are forbidden.

Only perpetually free effects (that is: effects that weren't only free because of a promo, etc) are allowed.

As another reminder (if it helps): while free/stock effects are cool, you can't use external choruses, phasers, flangers, heavy distortion (the original sound must be recognizable), or pitch/frequency shifters.

If you read his post again, you'll see that he created two versions: One with non-free effects and another one without for the submission.

Welcome!

Note - your submission doesn't need to be zero-effecfs. You can still use reverb, compressors etc to make a good production.

Im sure you could replicate some of that wide reverb sound on your original song with freely available reverb plugins.

Hello everyone!

Here is my submission:

https://soundcloud.com/kevin-le-grand/circe

I have used:
6 x 2Rule Synth

DAW: Logic

Plugins:
-XFER OTT
-Valhalla Supermassive
- TDR NOVA
- kHS Transient Shaper
- kHS Trance Gate
and
- Logic Arpeggiator and chord trigger

Still happy to receive feedbacks as I'm quite new into electronic production and I know there are many people in this arena with great experience. After my first submission in July I bought a audio interface because I didn't have one before. It makes a big difference ! I wish I had it before.

Hope you enjoy it and keep having fun :).

I saw, so I was explaining how and why the first one wouldn't fly.

I think he knew that. Why else would he make another extra version for the contest?

Juergen wrote: Tue Sep 12, 2023 10:48 pm I'm having quite a bit of trouble creating suitable drums :-(
Consider how a drum physically works, as well as the body of the drums themselves. Drums have heads that are struck with a hand or stick (quality number one: the transient), and in doing so, come down in pitch and tension (quality number two: the strike) before relaxing to the tune and body of whatever the drums is supposed to be (quality number three: the body).

Remember that you can, and should, use your DAW's internal modulation utilities:

Kick: Low sine wave with an envelope on the volume; a second, shorter envelope on the pitch; and an even shorter third envelope on the second envelope's amount. A saturated noise layer can help it cut through the mix if desired, but optional if the kick is intended to be subtle.

Snare: Rounded-square/soft-clipped-sine/both, layered with some stereo noise [the "snares" underneath the drum, with their own envelope assigned to enter immediately after the transient, and is therefore best done in its own layer]; the first layered envelope on the volume; a second, shorter envelope on the pitch; and a third envelope on the second envelope's amount. EQ will further help to define the body of the snare, differentiating it from an element like a hihat or crash.

Cymbals: The easiest of the three, since they don't have bodies: they are just noise with varying amounts of high-passing, decay, and tone, depending on the specific cymbal - for example, you may want to emphasize a particular frequency using EQ and/or a resonator (this synth has a comb filter, wink wink) if designing a ride.

I didn't have to type any of this, but do with it what you will.
Thank you for your explanations and for the time you invested in it!!!

Hello, here is a third test :)
I'm not sure if this will be my contribution for this month :(
Maybe I'll try to compose something else at the last minute.

this, checkout other peoples submissions and see what plugins they are using. it'll help you learn too, its how i learn a lot of tricks too.

some nice free reverbs are in airwindows package (kplate), then there's the classic supermassive...

Compression and stuff i love the Tokyo dawn labs ones.

We would have to vote on your version with no effects unless you replace your paid plugins.

Honestly, other submissions are how I learned about OrilRiver; +1 on checking out the plugin lists of your favorite past/current submissions of other artists. We're full-disclosure here, lol
