Beats me.

I've noticed that instead of making incremental improvements over time to appeal to a wide range of users, Presonus instead focuses on appealing to certain demographics with each update - loads of people expressed their disappointment at 6 having a lot of stuff for "EDM producers", and I'm sure we'll see complaints about how their wasting resources on surround sound, Linux, and the DAW Project stuff in this update.

So this strategy ensures that you will always have a vocal group disappointed with the release. But it also means that you'll have a vocal group excited about it. Making smaller improvements to appeal to all users with each updated might actually be a more balanced approach, but that way you'll have a less impressive-looking update to boast about, and more disappointed voices along with less excited ones. So even though there is nothing in this update that excites me, it's probably a pretty smart way of doing things for Presonus.

Yes. However, a truly balanced update means providing both new features targeted at specific users and small improvements for the majority of users. It's only natural to have criticism that this update is clearly too focused on the former.

I just would like to know whether there has been an increase in bugs with this update.

It's early days - I always wait one week now to see what shakes down.

But any expected "bug" chatter has been low to non-existent over in the Presonus forums so far. No signs of anything that screams critical or grinds any work to a halt.

AND - it's super easy to install side by side. Install 6.5 alongside 6.2.1 and do your thing. When 6.5.x feels right to you - start doing everything in there.

Have they put the price of the Subscription up? That's quite a hike, glad I'm not on it.

Yes. And very well done.

Have to tip the hat to Presonus. Atmos looks pretty streamlined to set up and use. Really pleased they dropped this, I had no idea it was in the works. I just updated to 6.3 not long ago but I'm looking forward to checking 6.5 out (eventually) esp. w/ Atmos. A parallel installation will def. be in order but I love the prospects of giving atmos a spin in S1.

Wavearts Panorama 7
https://wavearts.com/products/plugins/panorama-7

is doing this kind of stereo phones mix, if that is all you need, target phones listening.
- This in any daw.

But if to target external surround systems you may need AC3 or Atmos codecs or something. which I do in PowerDirector instead. Daw only do 6 channels wav file that I import.

The general flaw of all phones spatial stuff is that it never give you the experience right in front of your face thingy.
- what is to be in front goes up through your forehead up that way

But nice thing about Panorama is that you can define a space for near reflections freely with different materials in ceiling, floor and walls etc.
- but reverb part is generic space, but can turn that off in plugin not needing it

Just for those that think Atmos is needed for any phones surround mixes.

Here is a demonstration of various surround system mixes for phones

I don't see Atmos as any better than the others, Dolby, Razer, Windows Sonic, Dolby, SBX, CMSS etc.

Judge for yourself.

But cool that StudioOne now has surround mixing. Which Cubase and Sonar had forever.

Maybe it is or not. I didn't realise that that all these high end Dolby Atmos rooms were clamouring for Atmos in S1, or in fact they even use it. If it isn't aimed at pro users then really what is the point of it being the USP in this release.

Well - that's what I was saying all along - at least since some folks started freaking out about this last year when S1 6.0.0 was released WITHOUT ATMOS.

Since then - there is a 'vocal" segment of the user base that has inexplicably bought into the idea that:

1. Every artist, band and music service in the world will soon "require" ATMOS mixes (and shouldn't ever bother releasing anything "in stereo" again)

2. That somehow Apple Music is suddenly relevant and their use of "spatial audio" suddenly "requires" every DAW in the world to need ATMOS (or you will never be able to upload anything to them again)

3. That major studios worldwide will start suddenly "using" Studio One because it has ATMOS OR are "purposely" avoiding it because of it's lack of ATMOS

4. That 99.99% of the entire music/film enjoying public knows exactly what ATMOS is and are demanding it to really really enjoy their music more...

5. That every active music fan out there must be rocking a true Dolby ATMOS certified studio or home theater and "need" S1 (with ATMOS) to feel complete.

I do not have an immediate need for it in my work, but I am glad it's finally out there and hopefully some of these folks are happy.

I guess it's something they've got in the bag now, in case it does blow up and becomes the norm.
The way it's implemented certainly lends itself to the non-pro user and they've placed a lot of emphasis on the binaural headphones option which opens the door to everyone to 'have a play'.
