Sequencing Softube Heartbeat

Have you tried the built-in sequencer in your DAW? For example, StudioOne can flip between piano roll and a drum view.

The above is how it works in Bitwig.cptgone wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 11:45 pmJust put the sequencer in the same instrument channel in your DAW, in front of HeartbeataMUSEd wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 10:58 pm I have a drum sequencer - what I don't get is how to hook it up to have separate sequences going to each of the 8 instruments since it only seems to have one midi in.
---
In Cubase, just add 2 instrument channels (one for the drum sequencer vst, one for Heartbeat) and set the MIDI input of the Heartbeat track to the drum sequencer vst.
(Alternatively, use Cubase's MIDI insert "effects". Activate the Beat Designer there. That way, you only need 1 track - sadly, Cubase's MIDI insert apps are very, very limited. If you want to use the Drum Sequencer vst you mention, you need 2 instrument channels, as explained in the paragraph above)
(If you want to use Cubase's Key/Drum/Score editor, you only need 1 Instrument Track (set to Heartbeat) and enter the right notes)

I can live without the sequencer, with other drumboxes their sequencer sometimes get in the way. Changing patterns from the daw? Exporting multitrackaudio? Can be bothersome too.
In my opinion there are other reasons why they deserve extra extra pseudo scientist points.
Because they make a drumbox that is obviously inspired by classic boxes for dance music. Yet arguably the most important elements in house and techno, the open and closed hihats, share ONE fader.
Which means you have to set the relative level between open and closed hihats by velocity.
A pretty gruesome way to set your levels.
Anyone who's ever used a tr 808 or tr 909 knows how the groove improves when you get those levels right. That's why they have nice pots for each.
How could they miss that?
Why on earth would they not implement it in a software instrument? The added cost or effort?
No accent level either. No sequencer is no excuse for missing accent. Even drumboxes with a sequencer let you trigger accents on a specific midi note.
Adding insult to injury, you can only set the way heartbeat channels respond to velocity for the whole thing. Instead of per instrument.
3 channels play samples. Wouldn't it be nice if you could drop your own samples in them?
Too hard for rock&roll scientists?
It's a shame, because It sounds fine.

I am in 2 minds with Softube, they generally sound great, but at the expense of functionality. While i do see that most of the important controls are there, for the most part, but i often see their plugs as a missed trick. It's not like the limitations of hardware are there, just add some options. though i guess when you start adding more controls + functionality - where does it stop?
to be honest, i barely scratch the surface with Heartbeat (or Modular). cos they're kinda annoying and i have a shitload of drum machines that aren't. I just need a good drum module, i very rarely use an inbuilt sequencer in plugins.
Def would have been handy to be able to load samples, for a lot of people anyway.
anyway, what does a rock scientist care about drum machines!? unless it's a planet rock scientist
god i hope Nepheton 2 is releasing soon,
breaks my heartballs the 909 get's priority over the best drum machine of all time.

I have to agree with you about Softube and specifically Modular and Heartbeat. But they do sound very nice and many of the modules in Modular are fantastic. But tricky to use. Mostly I call up presets and tweek from there. I like them and use them from time to time if i really want those sounds I'll work the UX irritants.sqigls wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 11:37 pm I am in 2 minds with Softube, they generally sound great, but at the expense of functionality. The thing about the D16 drum machines are their names. I can't remember which is what. It seems highly uncessary to come up with such names. Even the effect names are wonky. Or maybe I am missing something ... ?

Really? Can you go into more detail? The onyl Polish I know is a saying I came up with to impress my Polish girlfriend: poszukaj lepszego ziemniaka. It literally means "I am looking for a new potato" and refers to needing to do something new or replace something with something else.
But I don't get the Polish in the D16 product names and would love to be enlightened!

got an 808, not a real need for vst. Still pondering for months if i like the D16 stuff better or the Audiorealism ADM1x. Roland cloud is no contender, the sound is way off. Their 808 cowbell is a joke.sqigls wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 11:37 pm god i hope Nepheton 2 is releasing soon,

Softube modular has a sequencer and you can use Heartbeat as individual modules in modular

they're all quirky word plays as far as i know. Someone knowledgeable will chime in surely. I'm too lazy to searchplexuss wrote: Wed Sep 27, 2023 3:48 pmReally? Can you go into more detail? to this day i have avoided the Roland cloud stuff. I'm not even that interested in their digital hardware. Nepheton (v1) wasn't exactly 100% there, but hearing the improvement from Drumazon v1 to v2 I'm very anxious for Nepheton 2.
MORE COWBELL!!!!!!

Turns out the best sequencer for Heartbeat is Bitwig Stepwise, although I need one more lane ideally

Tried this last week. Teached me what a helpless piece of software Modular is.boombaxx wrote: Wed Sep 27, 2023 8:06 pm Softube modular has a sequencer and you can use Heartbeat as individual modules in modular
It sounds good but is really lacking in workflow and features.
