I *was* going to buy it, feeling regret on missing out on the £29 when it was released, but now I'll wait to see if they backtrack on the UI - it'll be on sale at some point over the holidays if they do, I'm sure.

At least the ob-e would never have the ui space to even consider this. I don t really understand why anyone would get the sem when that exists anyways.

The SEM behaves differently...and by that I mean the OB-E has a sequencer but no Arp, whilst the SEM has an Arp and a Sequencer.

But it's also a little like asking "why would people buy a monosynth instead of a polysynth?". This case is slightly less like that because OB-E is closer to 8 monosynths working together. But it sure did remind me of that question.

It's extra strange that they try to do this realistic 3D look but it looks like wood side panels? Did the SEM ever come with wood side panels? Weren't they always black metal? And why does the bottom of the wood side panels get smaller in a weird NON perspective way. It really does look amateurish... sorry.

Could somebody share an opinion about bx Oberhausen vs Gforce sem sound and usage?
It's tempting 39 us now,but i have two licenses for obehausen and even can't find enthusiast to send the one,not sure is it because of quality of the sound or just the price drops of pa - literary i'm giving it for free and nobody want it,as exchange for something else,which i can use...whatever:):):)
How are they compared inside the mix,personally i like how Oberhaosen sit and give warm analog feeling,is there significant difference in presence inside the mix?

In my experience they both have that same unmistakable presence. I always put it down to bx_oberhausen's massive unison but SEM can sound huge with just it's three oscillators. I use both regularly but probably favour bx_oberhausen for its unison. But SEM is way more CPU friendly, if that's an issue.

SEM is about a gazillion times easier to use, for a start. Yes, a gazillion. That's a lot.

Quality control of the GUI also isn't something they're interested in.
When you flip the GUI back and forth you'll notice they haven't aligned the general groups of controls between the two sides, it shifts a couple of pixels.

But ob-e can be used as a monosynth and focused on just one sem. But the price thing of course if you had to pick one. I just don't understand having both.

I use both regularly but probably favour bx_oberhausen for its unison. But SEM is way more CPU friendly, if that's an issue.

bx_oberhausen is indeed a total CPU hog. However, I suppose I should be grateful. It's what finally pushed me over the edge to buy a new music laptop. I had been holding out for the upcoming Apple 3 nanometer M3 Max MacBook Pro which should finally come close to achieving performance parity with high end PC laptops while running much cooler and quieter with significantly longer battery life. But I finally broke down and bought a refurbished 14" M1 MacBook Pro to tide me over until the M3 Max arrives.

I couldn't play even a single note from bx_oberhausen on my ancient 2015 Intel Quad Core i7 2.8GHz MacBook Pro. My Cubase Pro 12 performance meter would max out instantly and the sound would stutter and crackle and pop on a single freaking note! And I was using a fairly large 256 sample buffer on my MOTU 16A Thunderbolt audio interface. It was ridiculous.
