UAD 224 Reverb - overlap with VintageVerb or LX430 essentials?

I'm demoing the UAD 224 reverb and it's nice. But I wonder if I'm being a reverb hoar and hoarding a bunch of reverbs with too much overlap in them.
I have Valhalla Vintage Verb for general verb, Relab LX480 for that classic reverb sound, Blackhole and Supermassive for long verbs. Is there any point in getting 224 at the sale price ($39?).
Or should I invest that money in upgrading my LX480 essential to full version instead? Convince me that I need to get this verb.

For my ears and purposes the 224 and 480 significantly different to get both.
i think Valhalla stuff generally are really good for the money....but for Lexicon stuff, I prefer EA R2/R4, Relab, Lexicon, UAD, NI (Softube), Arturia, Liquid Sonics.
$39 is a no brainer.. pity you don't have a thank you coupon. (you would have gotten it for $14).

Is that some kind of voucher for people who already own UAD plugins?zvenx wrote: Sun Oct 01, 2023 1:41 pm pity you don't have a thank you coupon. (you would have gotten it for $14).

Wasn't the Arturia 224 just $29? I prefer that one. It's got a better GUI and more options. CPU usage is much higher though.
Does ValhallaVintageVerb already cover the best parts of the 224? To some degree, yes. But the dedicated 224's seem to have a little less going on in the low mids and fit a mix better. Plus, you never have to worry about things like "where should I set the Early/Late diffusion for this" like you do with VVV.
But yeah, the 224 style verbs are great. They're less diffuse and dense than the later Lexis and fit the mix very well.

I just sold my copy of the Arturia 224 as, while easier to use, just couldn't compare sonically to my ears - the difference was immediately apparent to me. Caveat: reverbs are very subjective and I prefer dark reverbs. I suspect it'll be one of my top 3 all-time reverbs.
The 480 doesn't wow my ears as much as the 224, and HD Cart is a good one and I feel no need to pick up another... unless it was $30 or so, I suppose.
VVV doesn't wow my ears anymore and is no longer installed.

Totally. Like synths.
I never really liked the sound of the Valhalla reverbs either. Don't get the hype around here.

It was a nice addition for sure. But SonsigA does well enough at Quantec for me. I have so many amazing reverbs VVV just doesn’t make the cut anymore for my ears. VVV is just too muddy/mushy for me.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sun Oct 01, 2023 4:07 pmvitocorleone123 wrote: Sun Oct 01, 2023 3:54 pm VVV doesn't wow my ears anymore and is no longer installed.Did you hear the new Palace [Quantec] mode in the last update? That one is REALLY nice and very different from others.

VVV has quite a few different modes... which ones do you find mushy, and on what type of inputs?vitocorleone123 wrote: Sun Oct 01, 2023 4:48 pm It was a nice addition for sure. for muddy/mushy, a post reverb eq can usually fix this up pretty easily.
Specifically against the UAD224 for Hall settings, there are differences. The 224 is dark, and could be called a bit noisy when the reverb is isolated, but works well in a mix context.

All of them (less so the new Palace). And it doesn't clean up very well compared to just using reverbs I like better, like Cinematic Rooms Pro, TaiChi, HDCart, and the UAD 224._leras wrote: Sun Oct 01, 2023 8:05 pmVVV has quite a few different modes... which ones do you find mushy, and on what type of inputs?vitocorleone123 wrote: Sun Oct 01, 2023 4:48 pm It was a nice addition for sure. VVV was the first reverb I bought.

Fine, I bit the bullet and bought UAD 224. I tried the demo and it was nice. Not bad at all.

me too: CinemaRoomPro / 7th Heaven / TaiChi (well, i have also all the others, since they finally came down that low in $ )vitocorleone123 wrote: Mon Oct 02, 2023 2:46 am just using reverbs I like better, like Cinematic Rooms Pro, TaiChi, HDCart, and the UAD 224.
how do you see the UAD224 fit in there ?
i mean, is it still adding something ?
in what regard !......for what usecases would you take the 224
"Plugin has turned Drug now"....and the business knows it.

I think the UAD 224 sounds better within what it can do than TaiChi (full). TC full has more sculpting capabilities and control to fine tune things and make special sauce if needed.Funky40 wrote: Mon Oct 02, 2023 11:59 amme too: CinemaRoomPro / 7th Heaven / TaiChi (well, i have also all the others, since they finally came down that low in $ )vitocorleone123 wrote: Mon Oct 02, 2023 2:46 am just using reverbs I like better, like Cinematic Rooms Pro, TaiChi, HDCart, and the UAD 224.

CRP is totally different. 7HP is much cleaner. HDCart is like a young cousin to the 224 - family, but not the same.
For me, at the moment, I'm ranking them:
1) CRP
2) UAD 224
3) Stratus 3D (for when I want as transparent and barely existing as possible)
4) All the rest depending on need and context.
If I want a real-sounding reverb (or somewhat not real), then CRP. For all else, UAD 224 (but it lacks ducking and a few things that would take it over the top - still need TaiChi on hand, for example).
Playing my OB-6 into CRP and the 224 end up in different realms. Both are beautiful in their own way.
