Major fuckup. By EU law Steinberg is responsible for everything they subcontract to other parties. The worst part is that the judgement is from 13-04-2023, so if they had proper governance and management skills, they would have done their job and contract and migrate to another partner.
Especially the part where they have no date when this will be solved makes it really unprofessional.

re.. Padshop update or upgrade ..zerocrossing wrote: Mon Oct 02, 2023 6:20 pm Steinberg is one of the most difficult developers I've ever dealt with. All I wanted to do was upgrade Padshop Pro to the latest, yet there is absolutely no path I can find to do this, and several emails to support have gone unanswered. I'm literally trying to give them money and they seem uninterested in it. I have a free Cubase LE license, but I've honestly never bothered installing or registering it because all my dealings with them are so frustrating.
Go to Steinberg www - find All instruments select Padshop - click buy
there is an upgrade path from padshop or update padshop pro - To Padshop 2
(now the shop is unavailable). I did contact them re. license for expansion Vintage Classics for Retrologue 2 - they didn't reply - atmo one just needs the exe file to install it & it works..
it's taking time the ' switch from the old activation ' .... sometimes I think it's a small company 10-20 ppl ... haha ... who knows how hard they are working ...

Depends which $ you use. I can assure you I can not get Cubase pro for $500. It is not even up for debate. You are simply wrong. I'd love to know where I can get Cubase pro12 for almost exactly half Steinberg's retail price...mothra wrote: Sun Oct 01, 2023 3:46 pm
Who's paying $1000 for Cubase Pro anyways? Its about half that, and knowing most folks here, you've got one or two other DAW's you can use to cross grade for even cheaper..

Logic Pro costs something above 200 bucks and the shop is always open.

Should be about 1.000 NZ Dollar for you (it's 579 € here, which is about that amount).kritikon wrote: Tue Oct 03, 2023 8:12 amDepends which $ you use. I think we're usually talking US Dollars here though.

If only it wouldn't need that 2.000 € dongle required to run it. DId I say 2.000 €? More like 3.000 € to meet my hardware demands. So, about double that I pay in the Windows world.martinjuenke wrote: Tue Oct 03, 2023 8:29 am Logic Pro costs something above 200 bucks and the shop is always open.

Yeah, I was recently looking at laptops/pcs etc and holy mother of spaghetti monster! I knew macs were expensive, but didn't realize how much more. Pretty well double here. At least the Cubase dongle was only $25

Asknet has always been crap... Years ago, Asknet payments were blocked by some banks. I couldn't buy a Cubase update at that time and the bank told me that the company was on the "black list". Of course I also informed Steinberg about this... they should have looked for another service provider much earlier and not waited until they went bankrupt.
But at least it explains why Cubase 13 will probably come a bit later.

Always looks good at first glance when you see one. I recently saw a Mac Mini M2 for 699 €. Yeah, right. With 256 GB SSD, and 8 GB Ram, which would be way too little for me. I'd need 1 TB and 16 GB of Ram minimum, which would be more, like, 1.300 €. Add the costs of a monitor, keyboard and mouse to that, and you're quickly reaching 2.000 €.kritikon wrote: Tue Oct 03, 2023 8:42 am Yeah, I was recently looking at laptops/pcs etc and holy mother of spaghetti monster! Buy an iMac with such specs, and you're already over 2.000 €. And, those are really my minimum specs. The PC I'm using has 2 TB disk space, and a mid tier gaming graphics card on top, and only cost me 1.500 €, in a time where the hardware was expensive, so, should rather be, like, 1.200 to 1.300 € now. A comparable Mac would cost double the price, at least.

At least people can buy at retailers (which everyone should do anyway, considering the prices are always lower).4damind wrote: Tue Oct 03, 2023 8:44 am Asknet has always been crap... Yes, but if I have understood the message correctly, they are delaying planned updates etc. until their own shop (with the new payment service provider) is online again.
Logic and Mac... well, Mac Mini are already cheap but only if you don't buy the biggest internal memory (RAM and SSD). That's why almost everyone uses very fast external SSDs, which of course only cost a fraction of what Apple charges.
A Mac Mini with an external 2TB SSD from Samsung costs around 800€ in the small version with 8 GB RAM. With 16 GB RAM it costs about 1000€. Logic then already costs 1200€
But I have the feeling that more and more people are leaving Logic and switching to Ableton Live

That's just my subjective perception that Logic is no longer so popular.martinjuenke wrote: Tue Oct 03, 2023 10:01 amInteresting, what are your sources?4damind wrote: Tue Oct 03, 2023 9:12 am But I have the feeling that more and more people are leaving Logic and switching to Ableton Live![]()
I see Ableton more often than Logic, especially with well-known names like Jarre, David Guetta, etc. Also "Schiller" (Christopher von Deylen)... former Logic users who switched to Ableton. 7Skies (probably more familiar to Trance listeners or "Anjunabeats" listeners or because of the presets he made for some plugins) once made a video about why he switched.
Higher speed, better automation, better built-in plugins were some of his arguments.
If I were to start again, Ableton Live or Cubase would also be my choice.
(But I wouldn't be so sure about the system at the moment
