Anybody else find, that when using the Genopatch, you often end up liking too many of the variants and so end up saving loads of them?

Some Genopatch examples.
You might have to open the links in a new tab to hear these..
Alesis HR16A Genopatchified (2 bars Alesis, 2 bars Synplant, repeated for 16 bars)
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/6mgjchoa ... l6unv&dl=0
A trumpet sample - first note is the sample, the rest is Synplant
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/4d3comjh ... q5qj6&dl=0
Toybox sample first, then a riff in Synplant
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/dhyh4q8t ... bapub&dl=0
Double bass sample, then a riff in Synplant
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8nei40ws ... k0fbn&dl=0
Not perfect, but decent results - there's no mixing or EQ-ing, and no tweaking of the Genopatches so I feel that they could have been closer with a bit of extra work, I just used the best solutions that could be found, although there's some added reverb on the trumpet and toybox examples.

Yes. It's a separate download.

After clicking "Dismiss" in the "legacy-mode warning" window, the window now stays dismissed until you manually open it again.emef wrote: Wed Oct 04, 2023 11:29 am incredible update, proper loving Genopatch, but i could live without that 'upgrade patch' popup when i load an old preset, it is really annoying, the orange triangle next to the preset name is enough to let me know i can update it if i want to, really don't need that popup

you should make a tutorial
i can follow the single short sample type of thing.
But a whole beat ?

After I saved a patch to the User folder, I can no longer find the presets that came with Synplant--is there a button I'm overlooking?

For fun, and exploration, I asked chatGPT to write a review with opposite opinions per point, based on a review that was posted in the forum that was critical of Synplant 2. Fascinating...
Cautiously pessimistic. Genopatch is a bit underwhelming. Synth itself offers a great deal of flexibility, making it easy to fine-tune and customize Genopatches to your liking across the entire keyboard.
The Reverb effect in Synplant adds a wonderful, distinctive tonal character to Genopatch, and it's expertly utilized in its final results. Personally, I find the reverb to be a delightful addition, enhancing the sound of virtually all presets and Genopatches with its unique color.
Synplant 2 shines in its stereo image, offering a wide and immersive soundstage without the need for additional plugins. It's effortless to adjust the stereo image within the synth itself, eliminating any inconvenience.
The interface is well-designed, with all essential controls conveniently placed on the front page, eliminating the need for constant navigation. Sculpting a sound to perfection is a breeze, thanks to its intuitive layout.
In any case, I'll continue exploring Synplant 2 with great excitement. I'm definitely going to purchase it, as Sonic Charge deserves every bit of support. It's become one of my favorite developers. I genuinely appreciate the thoughtful user tweakable settings in Synplant 2, and considering how well it's executed, I can see why AI integration is a brilliant choice.

Each drum sample is individually genopatched and there are 11 synplants sequenced in the whole beat, vs 1 drum rack of the original samples.

Loading very long and complex soundscape samples in Genopatch can create some fantastic results, it can take a few minutes until the 4 DNA branches have evolved, then one can take it from there and start evolving, replanting seeds and completely getting positively lost, really inspiring!

Though the promise of Genopatch peaked my interrest, I have to say.. the above echos my thoughts on the matter. It's a hell to operate this synth and so far the Genopatch hasn't cooked up anything for me that is really playable across the keyboard.bmanic wrote: Wed Oct 04, 2023 6:23 pmIt's strange to be playing with such a limited synthesizer in 2023. For instance the oscillator sounds absolutely phenomenal when you modulate the shape change (I used the built in LFO in Reaper) yet there is no way to modulate it with an LFO in Synplant 2 itself. There are so many parameters that would benefit greatly from being modulated by things like envelopes, velocity etc.. stuff that sounds really great. It's rather frustrating to have this simplicity when everything is so smoothly interpolated that it could easily be modulated and would produce supreme sounding results.
I really hope Sonic Charge will at some point make a more traditional synth with all the building blocks they already have available. While the AI stuff is cool and all, I just don't feel all that inspired by anything I've had it cook up yet. One thing it does do rather well is drums.. it's fun to analyze a bunch of simple drum sounds and have the AI completely screw it up.

I do agree with this to an extent as well, I found genopatch to be very exciting and I actually got some super usable results, albeit more in the vein of freaky sound design.
I tried making a patch myself without the AI and i was astounded how limited this synth is, considering it comes up with really interesting genopatch stuff in my opinion. But like bmanic stated, a synth in 2023 without assignable modulation is very strange! the LFO seems limited to amplitude and vibrato, and the loopable mod envelope seems to be limited to modulating the mix between the 2 OSC, the FM amount, and pitch.
Really tickles the imagination what it could come up with if it had actually flexible modulation and maybe one more OSC or different oscillator modes (wavetable, additive?) and maybe some more FX like chorus, different filters and distortions. It really struggles recreating sounds that have a bit more rhythmic complexity/a longer sequence of different timbres, would be wild to have something like Serum, Massive X with this kind of feature.
however, im still really impressed how it makes really cool sounds with this relatively simple toolset, in my opinion it still comes up with excellent sound design bits and patches while struggling to recreate more complex wavs. I actually think that the mismatch that exists sometimes between what you put in and what it tries to do leads to really inspiring stuff, and it does have its own character that you may or may not like as a resolut of these limitations.
I guess I'll just use it for genopatch and the fun plant/seed randomizer and not attempt to make my own patches from scratch. definitely still my fav soft synth in a long while, cause it actually does something radically different.
my guess is, also cause he kind of touched on it in that youtube demonstration video, that they started working on genopatch quite early, and maybe it was then difficult to add new features in hindsight? not sure, but after 14 years or so with almost the same featureset as synplant 1, seems unlikely that he will make the synth part of synplant any more feature rich
