So the whats Best RE-201 Space Echo emulation for Mac m1 users?
I ask specifically since we m1 guys have to trim plugins down allot due to errors in logic or pro tools
Any advise welcome on this subject.

I can only speak for the UAD Galaxy, which is a great emulation, but I can’t say that I’ve ever compared to any other RE-201 emulations, so I can’t say that it’s the best.

I'm not a fan of the UAD Galaxy or the IK Multimedia version. Even UA apparently reworked the DSP for their Space Echo model in the pedals to improve the quality (shame they didn't update the plugin to use the new DSP and release a MKII).
Modnetic is another good one: https://www.surrealmachines.com/product ... nes-vstau/

GSi GS-201 mk2 seems really good, but if oft overlooked.

Right now I’m using the Arturia Delay TAPE 201. It is a noticeable improvement over the IK Space Delay.
Audiothing and/or GSi may be a little better than Arturia's, but probably not so much that it would make a difference in a mix.

Outer Space gets my vote, too

By the way, the Surreal Dub Machines are much more than a Space Echo, but really worth a try

try them and find the tone you like.
honestly i remember comparing 2 real ones with outer space, the UAD one and a few others...
One hardware unit sounded like Outer Space, the other one sounded closer to the UAD.
so i'm sure they all sound a bit different.
Outer Space gets my vote, but the UAD is nice and gritty.

Would be my vote on a Mac M1, but I don't use Logic nor Pro Tools.jamcat wrote: Wed Oct 04, 2023 7:39 pm GSi GS-201 mk2 seems really good, but if oft overlooked.

Not sure I follow you. Why would you need to be on an M1 Mac and Logic or Pro Tools?kidslow wrote: Thu Oct 05, 2023 12:12 amWould be my vote on a Mac M1, but I don't use Logic nor Pro Tools.jamcat wrote: Wed Oct 04, 2023 7:39 pm GSi GS-201 mk2 seems really good, but if oft overlooked.

In my opinion, the IK Space Delay has the best tone. It’s very sensitive to input gain, and the gain staging together with the filters are crucial in order to prevent the feedback from going crazy. It is mono however unless you manually pan the heads and I don’t understand the ratio between them.
Lately I’ve been using the Arturia. I’m not a fan of either of its preamps but it has some nice features not present on the IK, like ping pong and MS mode, different time divisions between the l/r or m/s channel, and nice filters, especially a peaking filter, which can be modulated. Setting input drive low, you can modulate / automate which frequency gets the drive.
Surreal Machines Modnetic is also nice, but lacks the filters (having only a basic EQ). A much more comprehensive spring reverb section, as well as some really nice effects and a comprehensive character mode that affects all parameters.
I’ve never tried the Audio thing. Sure it’s good.

Modnetic still sounds the best and most authentic to me, after all these years.

Pretty much all the options that have been mentioned are good. They all excel in something. Some of them have the most authentic saturation, the others have the most authentic feedback when that breaks up, the rest managed to nail some other elements. They are all good to be fair.
But... RE-201 emulations are a bit like Model D emulations to me. If somebody develops another one again, I will stab myself in the balls.
Where is the 501 Chorus Echo emulation, the Roland SDE digital series, the Korg SDD series, AMS DMX (other than UA), Chandler? All the interesting ones. Oh and where is the Moog Voyager emulation?
