Ok, pity me, I want to put my music on a YouTube channel! :o

HOWEVER, I don't want to send Adobe blood for After Effects to manually blast out something halfway interesting that will take me months to master, I'm a lazy lizard.

I've seen folks here post music videos that appear to be made with recorded music visualizers. They look plenty cool, the abstract ones would be PERFECT for my ambient tracks. :D

Can anyone tell me how the HELL these were made? Google returns a pile of Web apps that are leased software, is this the only way? Or is there.. gasp!.. Another Way?? :(

Inquiring minds want to know! :D

All help greatly appreciated. :help: :help:

Not cheap, but it sure as Hell would work! :o :o :D

Responds to MIDI, heh, I could 'perform' visualizations. :hihi:

Thanks! Cool video and nice track, btw, what I listened to.. :tu:

FYI: my experience so far.

As far as capabilities, this app absolutely destroys all the Web-based stuff I researched. It's incredibly controllable, has lfos and other visual control input, a mod matrix, and plenty of good materials to use for visual rendering. 11 out of 10.

What it does NOT have is decent documentation or online built in help. I've had to watch 2 very long tutorials and Google for an HOUR just to figure out how to export video! Stupid, stupid, stupid. I imagine plenty of musos would bin his in seconds, it's almost as complex as After Effects and nowhere near as well documented.

I feel like the company has never employed a tech writer.

I worked with a hardcore team of software engineers n Silicon Valley that had the attitude that 'if it was had to code, it should be hard to learn'. One engineer even said 'Feck the users'! Needless to say, most of THEM got laid off (I survived, of course, having had human factors experience, heh).

Great software handicapped by difficult usability and poor/non-existent documentation. IMHO, though, worth the effort to learn if you want CONTROL over your visualizations!

Just my two pence worth.

Just hit the red record button at the top of the main page...

https://www.imaginando.pt/products/vs-v ... p/overview

Or you can pipe via Spout (or Syphon) into something like OBS.

FWIW, if you're on Windows, you may need the K-Lite Codec Pack or similar for it to play videos on the background layer.

There's a thread that was a poll, but covers VS and other visualisers and tools here, btw, might be useful:

yup, i screen capture and go live to youtube.

or as whyterabbyt says, the record button :)

and their support are both helpful and ime quick!

ok, will try that - thanks! I owe you a kebab... :D :hihi: :P

Maybe the issue was lack of coffee, or a loose nut behind the keyboard... :nutter:

*edit* No, the issue is that I'm an idiot. :idiot: :smack: Sorted now. Red button is very low contrast on my screen, itz konfuzzling meeeee....

thats what ive done, winamp with AVS or Milkdrop, using audio device output as a source (i think via "load from url" iirc, there's a way... explained in settings i think?)

then just screencap that with OBS while it runs on a second monitor while i have daw on the main monitor.

free, relatively simple (if a bit ghetto), and really nostalgic. can grab a small 15" monitor for less than the price of most half-decent synth plugins if needed. might even be possible with virtual desktops and application window capture? not sure, never tried that way. (or maybe the the Spout thing rabbyt mentioned?)

I looked at Winamp. Nice, but soooooo much less controllable and I can't 'live MIDI control' the visualizer like I can VS. If you're not a control and power freak, likely does well.

AVS is very customizable through scripting (after all, somebody made all those presets) if you want lots of control. but yeah, for "live midi" you're right, unless someone has done something with it in that regard... (it's open source)

I'm very, very happy with VS! Bought the addon pack, some great materials there.

Since VS uses GLSL and I have past game engine dev experience with writing fragment and vertex shaders, if I don't mind breaking out my rusty optics background and re-installing my OpenGL tools, I can code up my own materials!! Wheeeee! :wheee: :wheee:

Haven't used more than 3 layers so far, though. Going to need a better machine to really push this into a VFX aural orgasm!! :hihi: :hihi:
