Not that it will change a thing, but Ableton is such a turtle when it comes to releasing new versions and features. I used to not mind it that much, but considering all the new tech that's coming out (AI Track separation and what not) i feel they could realy pick up the pace and release improvements more regularly.

Live 11 came out in Feb 2021 and its Q4 2023 now and apart from a rather basic Synth (Drift) we haven't gotten much apart from the expected bug fixes and minor improvements of existing features after more than 2 Years.

well working to Push 3? it is very obvious.

what is all the fuzz about Stem Seperation? why everyone wants it? is it such big feature many people like?
i don't get, only for special purposes.

and i am asking this, while i have 2 programs that can do Stem seperation quite well or pretty good, but don't use them for it, only sometimes to mangle my own recordings....

It really seems like Ableton Live doesn't exist anymore, the competition has run over it pretty well. A few days ago I made a complaint about this on Instagram. For me, Ableton is dead!!

Thanks for bringing the news. I would have never known. Lemme just uninstall it from my system.

I'm in your boat. It doesn't excite or interest me whatsoever. I get it, it's good for people who sample but that's not my party and had know idea this was such a big thing. I don't think I would every want to use it. I would rather fire up a modular and create squelchy fart imitating pink noise that I will never use in a track, rather than ever sample anything, but I respect it's not everyone's cup of tea. I just didn't know that stem separation was such a popular demand.

Still on version 8 and have no plans to ever use clip launching again unless each clip can contain a full modular environment.
That would be a good move for Ableton.
Each clip can contain exclusive multi instruments, effects with it's equence or multi audio tracks with it's own tempo and timing settings.
Tracks of clips can be arranged in the arrangement view and the session view becomes a matrix where any clips can be triggered alone or in any group.
Until then, clips are for sissies.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that Ableton has stopped in time. especially when we see the advanced development of Studio One, Fl Studio and Logic Pro X.

Is it the same Logic Pro X you are talking about? The one by Apple with its 20th century code?

Let's see. Ableton Live was released on February 23, 2021. It brought comping, group editing, MPE, four new audio effects, Live tempo adaptation, loads of new probability and velocity features for MIDI clips, bigger racks (16 macros, macro snapshots, macro randomization), improved clip editing (multiple midi clips at once, scales settings), three new sound packs, Upright Piano (which is as good as Una Corda or Noire). That was about two-and-a-half years ago.

11.1 came out on February 1, 2022. One year later, 18 months ago. Its main feature was native Apple Silicon compatibility. It also brought one of Live's best (IMO) features, Capture. They also added Shifter, a pretty decent pitch-shifter. Ableton also improved just about every new feature they introduced with 11. And also, all of Cytomic's brilliant filters were significantly improved.

11.2 was released on September 27, 2022 - a bit more than a year ago. It brought AUv3, meaning you could load a lot or brilliant iOS music apps on Live. Other than that, no significant updates or new features, but loads of fixes and little improvements.

11.3 was released on May 23, 2023 - five months ago. It brought Drift and added MPE to every instrument in Ableton (except Operator). It also brought a new Auto-Warp mode.

Now, only a few of these things are as flashy as stem separation, automatic mastering or any AI-based features, instruments or effects. And it does seem the competition is moving faster in some aspects. But it's not like they were lazy or didn't continuously add new stuff since 11.

On paper…
For actual usage here, and around the globe, Ableton is not slowing down it seems. I rather wait for them to keep on evolving rather than adding to keep up.

all i know is andy cytomic dev said somewhere on kvr hes given ableton a lot of stuff that hasn't been implemented in any version of live yet (this was i think on a drift discussion somewhere). I don't use live but if your interested you can chase that down. I dont think theres much more to it then that stuff has been sent to them that they havent used yet though.

Bullshit. Richie Hawtin's version has all of it.
