Ircam Lab TS - Have you tried it?

I use it quite a bit to change the tonal/transient relationship in longer recordings. Spectral clipping is veryhandy as well

i really like that metallic timbre you get from spectral processors, for otherworldly sounds they are great and i am planning to go from dark ambient to alien noise ambient soon and loose all subscribers from my channel
so i need this thing in combination with Kentaro granulators

Can someone explain to me how is this thing preserving the transients so sharp when you do a little time stretch?

also one more question, why every time i closed the program it deletes my Temp folder?

This involves technical details which are not simple. TS uses a "phase vocoder" technology developed at the famous IRCAM institute (the same technology we find in softwares like AudioSculpt or Trax) and takes care of the phase coherence of each sinusoid component of the spectrum in order to preserve transients.

Anyway, Paulstretch is conceived to transform sounds through extreme stretching (a transient can be transformed into a texture), while TS is conceived to preserve the nature of sounds (including transients) despite stretching, so they are by purpose completely different tools for different uses.

Thank you XComposer, is it normal to wipe out the whole Temp folder after closing the program?

I don't know, since it does not happen on my Mac, but I suppose it's normal (because many programs create "temp" folders and delete their content automatically afterwards; after all, "temp" means "temporary items").

it is weird because most programs create files in the temp folder on Windows, after you are done they delete the files but not the folder, the thing is without temp folder you cant open images on windows and i was a bit confused what happened after i closed the program i cant open images or photos, had no idea at first that the lack of temp folder was the reason
it is a little annoying future of that particular program

I think that he means that the same "Temp" folder is shared between TS and some photo software in Windows. When you close TS, the "Temp" folder is deleted and the photo software cannot work anymore because it doesn't find a "Temp" folder. Possible solutions could be: set the photo software to create a new Temp folder when it starts, or lock or protect the Temp folder from being automatically deleted, in some way (this is done on a Mac by selecting a folder, opening its "Info" window and checking the "Lock" option).

not in Ircam, after i close TS and double click on image i get this

that is because Ircam TS deletes the Temp folder in Local and windows image viewer needs that folder to operate

Interesting - we (I) get no problems like that on mac version - I can't even find a temp folder specification in the options files.. but glad you got a solution!

hi, what kind of fft resolution is optimal for good results?
the default is 2048 but it is a bit bubbly

It depends on the materials you are working on. Higher values result in a better fidelity about tone colour but can smear transients, while lower values preserve transients but the tone colour is less similar to the original. If I remember correctly (I'm not at the computer now), you can also enter the value of the lowest fundamental frequency you have in your sound and that helps to calculate the best settings as well.
