There's a source for this news?
Added link to the OP

As they specifically state in the OP (link is there too) "without the hardware" so this is not a VST editor.

Yamaha typically see computer plugins as being a 'convienience for hardware users', so I still think it's likely to just mean something to save Montage owners from lugging their hardware between studio and home, and a hardware purchase will be required. It's just how Yamaha roll.

I'd be tempted. I've no idea what recent Yamaha synths are like as the last oneI played with was a SY99. But I'd imagine it should be good. Not sure the blurb sounds like it's going to be general release VSTi though...

Historically true.
I'm hoping they at least make it available to us regular Montage owners though.

Montage is gonna be a $5k dongle for their VST :hihi:

I hope it will be released for all to buy.
Using a hw synth as a Dongle is a bad idea if the hw breaks and if it is not tied to the hw i guess there will be many that buy a Montage and sell it just to keep their Vst Montage.

True. Note that in the image in the OP it's explicitly written "without the hardware".

"the Expanded Softsynth Plugin (E.S.P.) replicates the MONTAGE M in your favorite Digital Workstation (DAW). Free for all registered MONTAGE M owners, E.S.P. allows you to create, edit and mix MONTAGE M Performances anywhere you happen to be – without the hardware – offering an unprecedented level of stage and studio integration. We are planning on releasing E.S.P. in early 2024. The first version will have all the MONTAGE M sound while being limited to basic editing. The full version will be available in Summer 2024".

Sounds like a software synth to me and as tristan mentioned without the hardware so it will have to have the synthesis engines and sample content in the plugin to function without the hardware.

Now that doesn't mean Yamaha won't limit the plugin to Montage hardware owners but the blurb does make it sound like an actual softsynth.

Time will tell as they release more information.

That's all I see on the site.
Unless I missed it, there's nothing about it being available to buy if you don't own a Montage.

I never stated it being available to buy. I wrote "we're yet to see". Anything wrong with my post? I wrote that they release a standalone VST. Would you prefer my post deleted? Am I misinforming anyone?

if it will be a standalone vst with all the Montage sounds included...this is gonna be a BIG game changer.
Montage has a gigantic library that can make Kontakt obsolete, at least for those who produce in the pop/rock/rap genres. I can only imagine that Korg and Roland will have no choice and will eventually release nautilus and fantom vsts as well.
I've tried many different workstation vsts (sampletank, halion, xpand, zenology...you name it) and nothing has ever came close to the big 3 hardware workstations.
Really big news.

What's nice is the entrance of polyphonic after touch in the new hardware line ups. That's the actual game changer IMO.

I am not sure this will sound exactly like AN1x. They have expanded the engine, they say it's "newly developed", now it has 3 oscs per voice, while AN1x had two. I think this is going to be a whole different animal...

Post

maybe we will get the AN-X in HALion, like we got the FM-X ....
