Battery is a joke in 4K.

I still love almost all of their Kontakt Libraries though. I almost only use their sampled instruments, even though I have the Ultimate edition of their Komplete. Synths and fxs don't appeal to me at all.
Well tbf a lot of their stuff predates when the OS could handle 4k well...

They also have a lot of different products. They're definitely not the only company to have been burnt by not having some single easily updatable framework that all their plug ins are built within.

There are constantly moving goal posts for all plug in developers (apple ARM?), and for NI with such a big catalog it must be very hard to just fix everything.

I do hold out hope though. Their more recent stuff all looks and sounds great, is probably on a a more upgradable framework and bodes well imo.

I would really like to see a Battery 5 though, bringing back a bunch on the functionality lost in the move from Battery 3. (Although in Bitwig I'm almost exclusively using DrumMachine as it's integration is fantastic)

Komplete Kontrol 3.0 on October 12th apparently...no longer supports MK1 stuff so stay on 2.8 if you are a MK1 user!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

No. You can install version 2.9.4. That's the current version and last version compatible with the mk1 keyboards.

Ah OK- just not the new version. I have a MK2 so hopefully OK- interesting to see what's KK3.

Yep, not version 3 or later.

And, yeah, I was also interested if the mk2 keyboards are at least compatible, as EvilDragon mentioned that the mk3 keyboards do something fundamentally different. But, looks like they will run version 3.

Bad news for MK1 users. Ableton Live 11 required custom scripts from NI website download in order to work. I bet later when Ableton Live 12 comes there wont be these so AL 12 out of question even though one would have the 2.9x version on KK.

Time to look for alternatives from other companies, NI ship sailed for me.

It is what it is. The thread on their site has people defending it because MK1 keyboards are pretty old, but the fact is they always cut ties before others do. Slightly unfair comparison, not really. RME support the Fireface interfaces from 20 years ago, they build into their drivers support, because it's part of their reputation.

So a comparably expensive hardware piece in the 88MK1 is losing support, because NI don't want to spend the money supporting it, and we're all used to this from NI. I have the 88MKII and I realize I've got about 5 years before I decide whether to stay with NKS and NI on this or bail to something that doesn't require me to choose between hardware and OS upgrades.

One thing is certain, when I retire and my budget is super fixed, I won't be going with NI.

You're kidding. Surely they will use page groupings for super-8, razor and kontour and ensembles with lots of parameters. And if they work for some then it must be possible in other ensembles too.

Reaktor would be the biggest beneficiary of the parameter grouping. Would be an epic fail if it did not get the best benefit of mk3.

Check the title of this thread. Likely not kidding. Title should be the Pathetic state of NI.

Can you imagine us in old age homes, yelling at the nurse changing us about how NI is terrible for legacy product support?

Well most control surfaces that have once a script for Live keep working, specially if they are pretty basic. I can see at least 3 control surfaces named "Komplete kontrol" in the Live 11 control surface menu, so the chance they will keep working is very high, there is stuff there that is super old as the Apc40 and even older. Ableton rarely depreciates support for controllers.

It is a shame what NI are doing, making HW obsolete, not the first time either but this time it is because there is a newer version. A company with quite low ethics. I hope this move hurts the sales of their Mk3.

Oh that's definitely happening! Evil Dragon will end up down the hall finally cussing at us because he doesn't have to be nice anymore.

Live 9/10 had different scripts, I remember waiting long time until Live 11 scripts arrived. So live 12 probably won't happen.

Ableton Live for KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series MK1
Ableton Live 9 / 10 for KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series MK1 (Mac)
Ableton Live 9 / 10 for KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series MK1 (Windows)

Well, obviously NI discontinued to support KKS MK1 to sell MK3 instead
MK3 still doesn’t support MIDI 2 protocol and for a good reason - NKS would become absolute
Personally awaiting KORG Keystage 49 with Poly AT and most importantly MIDI 2 implementation - bidirectional comms with your host PC - NO MORE Need for “Kontrol” type of software :)

The new korg controller looks pretty nice but I'm a bit skeptical about MIDI 2. I'd rather take a solution that works today.

Komplete Kontrol is actually pretty nice with the mk2, and I'm looking forward to see how the direct connection in mk3 develops.
