I won't be doing business with TAL again, I've taken the 3 items of theirs that were on my PB wishlist off the wishlist, I will continue to use the TAL plugins I have already purchased, but no more.

Business model - you don't need to know that (at least I don't see into the business discussions of TALNiowiad wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 12:46 pm
About the extreme discounts part, I don't know...
Some companies make those extreme discounts part of their business model and keep their balance on that.
TAL keep their balance at around -20%. Suddently selling *by mistake* a scary amount of licenses at -87% (and also counting the reseller cut) right before their BF sale, sounds pretty damaging to their business.
(maybe they want to release 3 new plugins for Black Friday and thus promote their company before it
Anyway, I don't have to assume that's what their pricing model was in the past and what's new. (See UAD !!)
That it was a stupid idea for AD to invite them may be true.
But their silence for days and pointing towards the AD is not fair.

Do you know if/when they (TAL) communicated with their US distributor or AD?
They may have been silent here, doesn't mean they were silent everywhere.

The real problem would be if they didn't even communicate with them.zvenx wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 1:01 pm Do you know if/when they (TAL) communicated with their US distributor or AD?

Of course, I meant the communication to the customer base and the general public, who were also affected by the error.

About the silence and all the shit AD took as a result, again, I agree with you.

TAL offers great prices to begin with. I, for one, am glad he's not getting into the 90% off game. He's trying to build and maintain a sustainable business. He's handling his own support requests. If he sold 100,000 licenses for TAL Drum and J-8 at $13, making only $4 off each sale, and 2% of people had any issue, he'd be flooded with support requests for the rest of his life unless he opted to expand. Then he's got a staff to support. And suddenly it's a different company. Growing too fast can be awful for companies and has taken down many a small, growing business.
And that's assuming people weren't just being licenses to turn around and resell at a profit. And then there are the license transfer requests that this sale would generate and having to support them.
Also, the attitude of the folks impatiently waiting for licenses that were clearly never coming and just generally being jerks in this thread...who would want some of them as customers anyway? Life is too short.
Neither TAL Drum or J-8 is expensive. Both are worth it at full price. I think there's usually a 20% off sale around the holidays. If that's still too rich for your blood, then these products just aren't for you. The market is full of great plugins sold at massive blow-out sales. There's never a shortage of deeply discounted plugins. But that's not a sustainable model for many indie developers, so let these companies do their thing, their way. The foot stomping is childish IMO and is a bad look. Would I have bought TAL Drum at $11 or whatever? Absolutely! I'm not judging trying to jump on a great product at a great price if that were all on the up-and-up. But it was pretty clear very early on that something went wrong here. And I think it would've been bad for TAL as a business in the long-term. So if you're disappointed, I understand. But just look at it from the TAL perspective. Or be annoyed. That's your choice. But there's absolutely no need for any vitriol or public foot stamping. My perspective is: this is small potatoes stuff in life. Take a deep breath. Get over it. Move on. If the products are that important to you, buy them through other means (full price, wait for an actual sale, second-hand). And if they're not that important to you, then why be angry?

I don't believe this is true for the majority participating in this thread. The thread has been very light hearted and we've all vented in mostly healthy ways over the last few days. You really should go see how bad it is in other forums. But you're both entitled to your opinions.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 1:28 pmBut there's absolutely no need for any vitriol or public foot stamping.

Most posters in this thread were good natured about it and just seemed eager and hopeful. Could have been done in one word if the TAL said: "Sorry."Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 1:28 pm And if they're not that important to you, then why be angry?
So far, he refuses, pointing the finger at AD (even now).
For example, that is what this story is about for me, not prices, shops etc.
then you can disagree.

He seemed to have admitted a mistake was made and explained why he had to stop issuing licenses. That's enough for me. Platitudes don't do anything for me. How many times do you hear "sorry" when it's clearly not meant? I'd rather understand what happened, which I now do. You can also disagree.becseigy wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 1:42 pmCould have been done in one word if the TAL said: "Sorry."Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Wed Oct 11, 2023 1:28 pm And if they're not that important to you, then why be angry?
